Hong Kong hotels

Hi All,
I have just booked my flights for our honeymoon. We're off to Hong Kong for four nights and then on to Thailand in April....am ridiculously excited about getting on with the planning :j
I'm feeling a bit over whelmed with the Hong Kong hotel planning. Part of me wants to go for a luxurious hotel as it is our honeymoon but equally I don't want to throw money away, so I'd still like a good deal.
Ideally I'd like to keep the hotel to £100 a night or less, but I know this may be a bit of a challenge in HK. I wondered if anyone had any tips for me or recommendations - or maybe some areas I should look at - or equally avoid!
Thanks

Yikes...I'm heading there in 2 months (on my own) and am staying in a box the size of my cupboard for about £30 a night.
From what I came across in my search, to find anything decent for two people would be a lot more than £100 a night.
What are your minimum standards? (Personally I don't think anything on your honeymoon would be throwing money away!)
I finally found a hostel (that has private rooms) right in the thick of it Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon, about five minute walk from the ferries to Hong Kong island.
Hotels now...a different breed of cat and from another search on my favourite travel site...a lot of money.

Do you have any particular plans for things you want to do in Hong Kong? It doesn't make too much difference if you stay on the Island proper or on the mainland (although Kowloon is probably preferred). It is about a 5 minute metro train between the Island and the mainland, although the Star ferry is a much more relaxed way of making that journey.
It's 10 and 20 years since I last travelled to Hong Kong, so I can't recommend a hotel - on our last trip we stayed at the Excelsior, but having seen the price now we wouldn't! That was part of a China tour, so I expect we got a hefty discount.0 -
stopping at the Excelsior in Jan - I found HK hotels were all very expensive!0

It is many years since we went to Hong Kong, we stayed at the Park Hotel, Kowloon. It is in a very convenient position for shops, restaurants, ferry etc. It is still getting good write ups and there seem to be some offers online which brings it in your price range.0

The Crowne Plaza Kowloon East gets pretty decent write ups at £95 per night on best avail rate. There may be 2 4 1 or friends and family deal available too, ive not checked.
Its also avail for 20k reward points per night.
A few mattress runs at cheap HI and Expresses would easily get those points. if you are ich rewards club member most "big win" bonuses would cover that.0 -
We were in Hong Kong in April 2010. We split our 10 night stay between Kowloon - we stayed in a 4* hotel booked via Priceline - Name Your Price - Macau - and HKI - both booked via the Friends & Family link in this thread - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1535105
IIRC we stayed in the Crowne Plaza on HKI and thought it was fabulous. It might be worth seeing what the prices are like for your dates and reading the latest reviews on Tripadvisor.
I don't know if it's because it was our first long haul holiday but I loved Hong Kong. Make sure you get off to the smaller islands via the Star Ferry. We also did Thailand this year - Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Chaing Rai - Hua Hin and had a fabulous time there, too.0 -
Thanks everyone for all your replies - definitely got some ideas to check out.
We will be doing the usual touristy things whilst there - plus a day at Disney (husband used to work for them and its the only one he never visited so we're doing an extra day there to fit this in!), generally we just want to be in the center of things and soak up the atmosphere so will check out the places you have stayed.
Thanks

We stayed...now don't knock it...we stayed at the YMCA. It really was fun to stay at the...

5 min walk to Star Ferry on Kowloon side. 1min walk from metro Tsim Shat Sui. Harbour views. Swimming Pool. In the centre of everything including Nathan Road.
Whilst it goes under the YMCA name, it is a really lovely hotel. Highly recommend it. Maybe a little above your budget, but worth it.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

YMCA was actually on my short list - thanks - that may have confirmed what we go for

View from our YMCA room. Watched the symphony of lights from our room using the clock alarm radio for the sound track!
Can highly recommend the hotel - it really was fab and so cheap for the location, cleanliness and facilities.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
