The problem turned out to be the Heat Exchanger. A new one was fitted in October 2013. However............the problem has started again! Anyone any idea why?

More sludge...i've got a glowworm job at the moment that has been powerflushed and had a new plate heat exchanger (by the previous engineers), and 2 months later the thing is blocked solid again. The main heat exchanger is full of magnetite and is subsequently dislodging and blocking up the secondary heat exchanger time and time again. And it has a magnetic filter. We are changing the main heat exchanger now, I had a high pressure hose through it and barely any flow!

We have a Baxi combi boiler, and had the heat exchanger changed yesterday due to the water going hot and cold etc.

£170 fitted.

Would a magnaclean help, or is this really only for the radiator sludge?

It will help but only on a clean system ideally, to prevent it from building up again. If your heat exchanger(s) are blocked with magnetite it cannot remove it, but it can prevent more from entering the boiler.

It is due for its annual service, (contract) this includes descaling the heat exchanger and cleaning of the boiler. I am presuming cleaning does not mean power flushing if needed?

Hi. Hope someone can help, have checked manuals and online and can't match my problem.
I have been away for some time and have come back to find the boiler had failed, initially there was no gas and it locked out. I have replaced cylinder and reset now the DHW is fine. However I cannot turn on the CH on or even use the + - buttons properly on the in built panel to set a time. There is power to the boiler (DHW fine, green flashing light), no red light lock out and the screen displays a flashing 12:00 and the + - buttons do not seem to work. Also the manual CH override on/off button also doesn't work.

Any ideas anyone?
