Beware of Virgin Media "Special deals"

Options
I have been a Virgin customer for Phone and BB for quite a few years. I recently decided to get Sky Sports, not necessarily with Virgin, but gave them a chance first. I was quoted a very low price to stay with them. Unfortunately I was conned, I only received Sky Sports 2, the salesman had carefully avoided discussing which stations I was actually getting. So I rang up again to ask how much a full Sky Sports package would be and was told "another £5.80 per month". I again agreed, as I felt I had no choice. There was no written confirmation forthcoming so after 10-11 days I inquired by email what my monthly payments would be. The actual further increase was an extra £17 per month. So I've been conned again by Virgin with very little chance of redress. If you phone up for a better deal with Virgin you should record the conversation as otherwise you may be cheated like I was, twice!

Guess I believed what Virgin told me, but what else can you do? The only option is never to speak to a Virgin sale person and just move away to another supplier.
  • I have virgin broadband and phone only....use SkY for TV

Virgin phoned me yesterday and said I can have the TiVo box and a new superhub2 for a extra 2.50 per month !!! And that for the first 3 months I would be given a 2 pounds per month credit.

With no other additional costs involved..

Installation is Tuesday PM and I hope by then that the paperwork has arrived by then so that I can check..

That was the problem I had, the paperwork only arrived on the same day as the installation. So I didn't know I'd been done until after the installation was complete. I think this might be Virgin policy.

Virgin are no-longer bothering to reply to my initial email, so I'm starting another complaint about the difference between what their sale team says over the phone and what they try to charge their customers. Wish I'd just moved to another supplier!

If you've already complained and not had a satisfactory response, you can refer to the Ombudsman.

Already tried the Ombudsman, but this has a poor reputation and is very slow, "they'll get back to me in the next 10 days!"

Starting a new complaint with Virgin when your original is still with the Ombudsman is a waste of your time. It's also the reason you are no longer receiving replies to your original E-Mail from Virgin.
