all depends on the ambiant temp of the house, 8 hours with a lot of heavy clothes in a relativly cold house is fast.

your house could be 10degrees warmer than the OP's.
    It's usually about 20c - 21c.

I find that with drying clothes, it is more about air movement than it is about heat. People dry clothes in their gardens very quickly, and it is rarely 21c+

Do you mind if I ask how hot the heated airer from Aldi gets? I brought one today and it's much hotter than I expected, like a really hot radiator.

I've just bought one too and am also finding the bars are roasting hot - I'm actually amazed the airer uses only 100 watts as it's so hot.

Just thinking, if it's only 100 watts the running costs should be less than the 5p per hour that Aldi advertise. So, 100 watts x 10 hours = 1KWH. Obviously electricity tariffs vary hugely but mine is 13p per KWH, so only 1.3p per hour to run, if I've worked that out correctly?

Thank you very much for posting OP - I was really pleased to get this airer as I'd fancied the Lakeland ones for ages but couldn't bring myself to pay their prices! I also like that the Aldi one has a 3 year guarantee.

If it is getting very hot, I would keep a close eye on it for a while.

The last thing you want is a fire.

Yes, absolutely, one can't take chances with electrical equipment, but although it's very hot, there's no overheating smell coming from it. Think it's supposed to be hot as the instructions say "use protective gloves, if required", though that's being over-cautious!

My airer's been on for a few hours now and the heat intensity varies, so it must be automatically regulating the temperature. Seems safe enough but I do appreciate your advice, thanks lstar337. :)

Thanks Gloria. I did email the manufacturers today as I was concerned about leaving it on for any length of time. They pointed out the warning sign on the airer saying that it was hot to the touch but didn't comment on how hot it might be. So, I guess that's fine then!

If the heat came from the bottom it would make sense.

My aunt used to have one that did. It was about the same size as a tumble dryer though.

If it's that hot, I'd worry about it damaging clothes?
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

My fault, by describing it as 'roasting' I've given the impression you could cook a Sunday lunch on it. It is hot to the touch but not enough to scorch clothes (I *think*!!). If anyone is worried about risking delicate items on it, there are two unheated rails on the outside of the airer, the other 6 are heated.

    You're welcome.

I'm sure it's fine as you say, but I thought at the time it was good to just keep an eye out. That goes for anything that gets hot TBH! :D

    Good luck with your airer.:)
