What do with some old cheques of UK banks?

I just found some old cheques of 2006 and 2007 issued from people having accounts in various bank in the UK (Sheffield Co Op Society Ltd., Alliance & Licester, NatWest etc.). All are for an amount of about 50 to 60 GBP and given to me for a service I had provided to various organisations. My account is with HSBC.
If I deposit the cheque it may be dishonoured.
What is the best approach to get these money in my account ?
Should I write to the individual banks and if they agree then only present it? Or, just present it and if they are dishonoured, write to the cheque-providers ?
Thank you.

Although they're still theoretically valid, banks will usually reject cheques that are over 6 months old. Best option is to contact the people/companies who wrote them and ask for replacements. That said, I wouldn't replace a cheque from that long ago.0

Surely you can't expect people to still pay out on a cheque they wrote 7 years ago. I know I wouldn't re write one now as you should have cashed it at the time. When I write a cheque I watch my account until it goes out but I guess that after 7 years it would be long forgotten about x0

Would the 6 year rule to enforce debt play a part here?
If it was me I would bin them.0 -
The debts would be statute barred but that doesnt mean a reasonable person wouldn't happily write a new cheque - most people dont try and avoid their responsibilities0

Are you serious?? You really think it's reasonable to ask people to write new cheques after 6 or 7 years? How about 20 years? 50 years?Where's the cut off point where it becomes unreasonable?0 -
Thank you for the variuos replies.
I still want to try my luck by presenting. Will the cheques be returned to me if the banks reject it? Will it be destroyed by the bank ? Will they notify me and return the cheque ?
Thank you.0 -
Depending on your accounts T&C's you may be charged for each one that is returned.0

The bank will reject any cheque older than 6 years as is is a staturte barred debt.

Nothing to stop the OP asking. I'd imagine the vast majority of the senders, if not all of them, will just tell him to take a running jump (or words to that effect!)0
