Care home advice, bit of a strange situation.

Hi, bit of a strange one this so not really sure where the thread should be.
My mums in a care home, yesterday I went to see her for an hour. I notice a gash in one of the cushions on the setttee, I asked one of the carers what had happened to the cushion, the gash is about a foot long, what she said has somewhat shocked me, she said that it's a deliberate slash, there's me thinking that she was going to say a resident had a go at it, I asked who did they think it was, she then told me they knew it wasn't a resident because this has happened to a number of furniture items over three floors! Residents on each floor have different needs so are kept on their own floors.
Am I right to be concerned? It's a bit strange to think they have a member of staff wandering around slashing soft furnishings, they could do with some new settees but this seems to be a somewhat extreme way to get them. I really don't know what to do, assuming I can even do anything?

I really dont know about care homes etc..but didnt want to read and run. Would you perhaps, be better off talking to the local Council?
I found this; http://www.cqc.org.uk/public
Hopefully it will point you in the right direction x0 -

Have you spoken to the manager about this?
It seems very bizarre and I wouldn't be happy to just let it go.
What is the general standard of care like? Are there any other things happening or not happening that give you concerns?0 -
Hi and thanks for the replies.
I haven't spoken to the manager yet, I'm wondering if approaching the council would be a better way forward. I'm concerned about the whole situation but don't really know what's the best way to approach it, I'm thinking the council is the way to go.

Unless you have other worries, this seems like a big jump - going from talking to one care worker straight to the council.
I would ask for a meeting with the manager first. Then, if the response is not satisfactory, you will have more to say to the council.0 -
Yes its a strange one, but are these being slashed where the residents need such care as being feed or given medication by staff and when they refuse or become awkward the staff member slashes furniture rather than take it out on the resident. If this is the case i would rather have them slash a cushion rather than slash my mother, but regardless neither should happen0

I was just in there the other day about a different concern, one of many since a new manager took over. Then a couple of weeks ago I got a demand for £1000, claimed it was owed fees, I pointed out that the cheques they were disputing have all be cashed by them, around a year ago they did the same thing, at that time they claimed I owed nearly £2000!

I wonder if it's something such as a friend or relative of one of the care home workers has the contract for repairing or replacing the furniture in the place, and they are just getting a helping hand with their profits.0
