I am sure that they explicitly said the SO must come from one of their current accounts because I do remember that several people, incl myself, couldn't at first figure out how to set up the SO.
However, I have just checked the T&Cs of the Lloyds, TSB and BOS Monthly Savers, and I cannot find anything that says the SO must be from an account at the respective bank.
What they do all say, however, is that deposits must be paid by SO(*). I am not sure how they would recognise an incoming payment from an other bank as a standing order. So you are on the safe side if your SO is actually on a current account with the same bank as your Monthly Saver.
(*): BOS further say the SO deposit must be made by the 25th of a month to count for that month. http://www.bankofscotland.co.uk/savings/pdf/savings-account-conditions.pdf0 -
A full list of regular savers, incl the Barclays one, is in the first few posts of this thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/6932895#Comment_6932895Is the Barclays Monthly Saver new? Or is there a reason why people arnt mentioning it?0 -
Just to let people know, the Bank of Scotland Monthly Saver cannot be opened directly online at present due to website glitching so if you phone 08456 020000 instead they can take a manual application.

Or use their cheaper landline 0113 279 8302"Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0

My husband and I have a joint current account with Halifax and also have 3 Bank of Scotland vantage accounts each (total 6)"Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0 -
I have a student current account and a reward current account with halifax, and 3 x lloyds vantage accounts.. I know others on here with multiple reward current accounts and MASS amounts of vantage/enhance accounts.
strange they told you that!0 -
Well I have 2 current accounts with Halifax (including reward) and now I have 3 BOS accounts as I opened one online last night....!
I think it was probably a case of the manager/her didn't want to open a application over the phone when I laready had 2 accounts.
When I mentioned to the lady that it was purely a co-incidence that Halifax and BOS shared the same infrastructure she seemed a little out of her depth. Or simply her manager didn't want to waste time with a phone application. I could see she had been given an instruction not to proceed so I didn't pursue it.
But an interesting thought, could BOS pursue you for Halifax debt?0
