I've just been on line to change my address which is 0.2 miles from my old address and takes less than 1 minute in a car. On line it failed to mention any charges for this change until I received an email stating that they would debit my account £128 for the change of address! I've been told that this is a higher risk area, but on the insurance fee scale for location, its the same figure as my old address! What a CON and what can I do?

Do a couple of dummy searches on a comparison site and see if the address is in fact dearer.

I reckon it's much simpler than that. Extortion! They have you committed already, you've paid and signed the contract. You can cancel the policy but it makes no financial sense for you to do that because cancellation fees are too high. Do anything you declare that rocks the boat. £50 please!

Flipping statistics and machines ruling the world!
How else are they meant to calculate risk? would they rather just gave out random prices. The insurance companies don't know you personally so some how they've got to calculate your risk based upon statistical analysis.

It's done for one reason and one reason only - it's an excuse to add more money onto your premium. No other reason or rationale behind it.

    Exactly.

You probably made the mistake of phoning up on a day that ends in a Y. Insurance companies will bill for that if they can.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

They may look random but really the stupid quotes is just because they've decided they don't want some of your generally description as a customer but don't say that.

Don't get me wrong they do stupid stuff like rubbish renewal quotes.

I had this the other day with AXA, I changed from a T reg Puma on TPF&T to a 60 plate Mini Copper S Cabriolet on fully comp, I could not believe it they charged me £65 for the remaining 10 months on the policy. The new car is only worth 40 times the old.

The actual value of the car is negligible compared to to any third party or injury claims made though, so have very little impact on quotes now.

they have an option to opt out of quoting but the general description of me for the quote would be:
Single male > late 30's > no kids > mortgage > 20+ years driving experience > 11 years NCD > owns another car > no accidents, claims or endorsements.

So I'm not sure what they wouldn't like for a low cost Mondeo.
