So how was your proposal...

I've been married twice - both times the proposals were pillow talk in bed (I must be good
)
Anyway I'm divorced from them both now & if I ever do it again it will require a full on magical proposal with thought & preparation.0 -
Jan 2003. It was my birthday and as DH has always been monumentally rubbish at buying gifts he always took us away for a few days instead. We'd been together almost 3 years, living together.
So we went to Ireland. DH's fab idea was to spend 2 nights in Dublin, we were due to fly out of Cork a week later and how we got there was up to us, hire a car and do a road trip. But he also said before we left he'd got me a present, which I thought was a bit weird but didn't question it.
Second night in Dublin, we'd been out for a meal, and now back at the hotel room it was gone midnight. So I say ooh, it's now officially my birthday, whats this present then. I opened a box, then another, then another and finally got to the ring box, gorgeous ring that he'd chosen himself. At this point I was kind of in shock and he simply said 'will you be Mrs Xxxx'. Then blustered on about how if I didn't like the ring we could change it, lol. Trouble was the ring was way too big so I spent the whole of the rest of the week with it in my bag, taking it out to gaze at it every 5 mins!
We had a fantastic week travelling the country. Got married later that year. 10 years wed this year, and we're going back to Dublin for our anniversary, staying in the same hotel

I knew we were going to get engaged as we had chosen the ring together but didn't know when (we'd collected the ring on the Friday evening). I thought he was going to do it at the shopping centre but didn't.
The next day we were going shopping but my OH wanted to show me the local beauty spot beforehand. He took me to the top of the local beauty spot and we spent ages looking at the view and then he dropped on to one knee and asked me to marry him(he told me he'd had to wait as there was a lady walking her dog!!!).
We then walked back to the car park and he opened the drivers door and turned on the car stereo and had set up the tape player to play the first song we'd danced to and then he opened the car boot and presented me with a dozen red roses. At which point I burst into tears and everyone in the car park was watching! We then went back home and told his mum (who we were living with) and thought we'd tell everyone the next day.
Next day we woke up to the fact that Diana had died and everyone we rang was more into talking about that than our engagement!!!0 -
One Sunday back in January, he suddenly said he had an idea for my birthday, he was going to get me a new laptop and a ring. If I wanted one. So that was it. So we decided to go to Disneyland for my birthday and go up the castle to give me the ring and announce it to everyone. It was also valentines day so disney was all hearted up.
So no big proposal, and we picked a ring out in the disney shop there for the pictures (a cute one with mickey head in diamonds), but we enjoyed planning how to make the announcement to everyone
Funny thing was we got up the castle, wandered around once (me looking for a good spot to do it as rainy) and then he got near the exit and said "right, next ride" bless he'd forgot
We celebrated afterwards by riding Buzz Light Years Lazer Blast! 0 -
Some lovely stories on here! My ex got down on one knee in the rain outside his local- but it was a lovely pub at the top of a hill and the lights of South Liverpool stretched out behind him which was nice. When I'd stopped laughing I said 'Get up you idiot' but I did say yes

My hubby did it in the living room. Watching Eastenders lol!
Long story short(ish)....
He had been in an extremely bad car accident less than a year before which had broken a vast amount of bones in his body - mainly his legs. At one point, they were concerned he wouldnt walk again - that then reduced to he would never walk without a severe limp and wouldnt ever be able to bend his knee (which had been basically put back together with metal - he now jokes that he has a "bionic" knee) He has numerous pins, screws etc and the xrays are a slight to behold!
Anyway - he had always maintained that he wasn't sure about marriage but as someone else has already said, I guess there is nothing like a life/death experience to show people what they really want out of life .... So this particular evening, he put his crutches to one side (i was sat on the sofa lol!) and hobbled over to me - went down on the BAD knee (well, as down as he could go which wasnt far bless him!) and proposed - Said that we would be married when he could walk me back up the aisle without crutches.
I then almost put my back out as I had to help him get back up......
And he did it - the man who they said would NEVER work in the physical job he did prior to the accident, not only walked me back down the aisle AND had a first dance with me is now back working as a landscaper! I was, and am, so proud of him! Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -
We are eating meat and potato pies in a scruffy pub. Me 7 and a half months pregnant. Him on leave from forces, - "Are we getting married or what". 5 days later we were married and 5 days after that he went back overseas. 35 years later we are still married.0

Well, I've been married 6 months and I am still waiting for a proposal :rotfl:
I was fed up with waiting so politely suggested we should get married because he'd had long enough to decide if I was the right one or not. He agreed and here we are
Very happily married on 10th April 2013

There was no proposal here. We were on our way back from somewhere and talk had got around to what would happen if anything terrible happened to either of us, as OH had a lot of family health traumas in the last year and had a grandparent in hospital. We were talking about how stupid it was that we would have difficulties as we were not next of kin as we hadn't "signed on the dotted line" even though we have been living together for years and both knew we couldn't get any more committed. We decided we should really stop cutting our nose off to spite our faces and just get married even though we were against the idea in principle, so we emailed the reg office when we got home and got married 2 months later on the tenth anniversary of our first meeting.0
