So how was your proposal...

Slightly on the back of the other thread about the jeweller spoiling the proposal...but I just wondered if anyone would want to share their proposal stories, good and bad in an attempt to show Daniel ( and perhaps his mother) that all is not lost....and even the best laid plans dont run smoothly.

Was it money saving, was it extravogant...and overall did you give/get the right answer?

I know over the years its been covered a few times on the wedding board, ...and indeed I've shared mine there too...

But for those that havent heard it before here goes with mine...

Only been with my man for a short time,6 weeks so marriage hadn't really been discussed and one night in the pub the subject was veguely mentioned...ie he said "do you want to get married"....to which I replied "yeah someday"...that was it and the conversation moved on and was replaced by some other chat...
Fast forward to the following weekend and he arrives at my house and announces that we are off to buy the ring...apparently my positive response to his question a few nights earlier had been enough to seal the deal.
To this day I still maintain it was no more than a conversation and cant believe I didnt class myself as a fiancee for the best part of a week!!!

One beautiful ring later and 20+ years of marriage and I couldnt have had a more perfect "proposal."

So whilst I agree that setting the scene is nice, and by all means do it how you see fit...surely its about the following years together rather than the moments leading to the point that your OH utters the hoped for word "yes".

Anyone else care to share their proposal .....

    mine was very dull indeed!

we'd discussed getting engaged, he was going to get the ring when he got paid, i showed him a few i liked online, none more than £100 cos I didn't want anything expensive (clumsy, forgetful and didn't see the point anyway).
Saturday morning i'm lied in bed and there's a knock on the door, which was the postman with the ring. DH brought it straight in to me, said some very lovely words which i can't remember and i said yes :)

we was engaged for two years and have now been very happily married for nearly 3 years with a bump on the way, so my dull engagement and cheap ring does not seem to have affected anything important :)

Mine too......... but we love to share

We were walking around trying to find the Trevi Fountain, considering it's pretty big it's well hidden! Eventually when we found it my H2B thought we should get an icecream so we did and sat on the steps leading down to the Fountain.

After eating the iceream (he took ages......) he then spun round in front of me so he was on one knee and said 'I think you've always wondered how I'd propose' at this point I think my head was spinning and I just kept saying 'get up... get up.... people are looking' we were surrounded by hundred of people!

He then went on to give me the proposal speech :-) and presented me with my ring - which he had made out of the cornetto cone!! So it all made sense why he was adament we got an icecream etc.

I get goose bumps everytime I think about it.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

It was horrible, I'd lost my job that day and was feeling rather low, we both were really drunk and he asked me. (he was saving it for my birthday apparently)

I regretted it the next morning, hated my ring, and ultimately knew I wasn't ever going to marry him. So 2 years later we split up.

I was fast asleep having a dream about lizards or something, when I felt a jab in my side. I jolted awake, having thought I was being attacked by one of the lizards to find my partner lying there asking me whether I was awake. After the round of "what, where, f******* lizards" I regained my faculties and she asked me to marry her.

    I absolutely loved mine.

It was Valentine's day 2006 which also happened to be my husband's birthday. And I was pregnant with our daughter and we were due to have our very first scan on the morning.

We set off for the scan with me being uncomfy due to having to drink loads of water and my hubby was being really quiet and seemed 'funny'. I was worrying that he was scared and nervous about the baby. Anyway, we got to the hospital and as we got out of the car, I noticed he was tying his laces (or so I thought)...as it happened, he had the most beautiful engagement ring and asked me to marry him down on one (wet) knee in the car park!!! We explained to the sonogropher why his jean leg was soaking and they gave us the scan pic for free in celebration!!

As i said on the original post

Oh had come up to my mums in Inverness for New Year we had been together just over a year by this point.

Now Inverness is surrounded by lochs and mountains and some beautiful woodland where does OH choose?

The magazine rack in Tesco! It was kind of a "Would you marry me?" "Yeah alraight" kind of conversation

He had no ring not even the money to buy a ring so I had to buy my own it was £180 and was silver with some blue stone in it and the smallest diamonds you could ever imagine lol

Roll 2 years later and after much promising he got me my proper platinum ring for what was meant to be Valentine's Day (it arrived a week late :(). I already knew all about it because my mum had already sent me a photo and while he was in the shop deciding what to have in the rig he was text my mum who in turn was e-mailing me to get the answers :rotfl:

He could have used this oppertunity to redeem himself but instead he threw at me in the kitchen at the same time saying "catch!".

He said he didn't do a second proposal because I had said that he better send me flowers for Valentine's Day :rotfl:

I never actually got proposed to.

We had always said we would get married one day but there was no rush, so one xmas he bought me a ring as an eternity ring.
Forward on a year and a half, by then we had been together one 8 years and was driving back from town past the place we said we would get married in one day, OH turns to me and says shall we just go in and enquire and see how much it is and the details on how to book. So go in and discover that in fact the building is being knocked down in just over 4 months. Sure enough we ended up getting married there 4 months later, a week after we married it was almost a pile of rubble.
So I never got proposed to, and the wedding had to be fully planned in that short time. I ended up using my eternity ring as an engagement ring.

Sometimes wish we had done it differently, but because of the short planning period it meant that there was nothing fancy involved, and everyone said it was a fantastic wedding as there was no pomp and galore, just fun and relaxing. We had hog roast to eat, and used our own disco equipment which we ran ourselves, and had it where I used to work.
Remember never judge someone that makes a mistake, because in six months time it may be you that makes the next mistake.

Wrapped up against the bitter cold having just seen New Year in on Red Square in Moscow. Fireworks were going off and I said to my partner that it felt like the most magical and special moment. He told me he could better it and I laughed and asked how. He dropped to one knee, held out a little ring box, told me how he felt about me and asked me to marry him. We aren't together any more but that memory still chokes me up and means so much to me.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
