Smyths toyshop are doing the xbox 360 minecraft and fifa 14 for £199.00...is this a good price ?
Its ok, you did or could download the minecraft game for free via Xbox Live, not sure if its still currently Free or if it wwas on offer for a certain period.
Have a look at hukd for any other offers, the price might drop some more once the Xbox One is released.0 -

My son is 10 now and we got him his Xbox 360 2 years ago, it was a great thing for him he plays nd chats with his friends online however you do need an Xbox Live Gold account to do this which I believe is about £30 a year.
We were thinking of upgrading him to the Xbox One this Christmas but, well, but mmmmmmmmmmm and that is how it has been, I am a little under whelmed with it and also the PS4 and even more underwhelmed with the £15 hike in price of latest releases to £55! Unless you do not mind spending loads of money for this kind of thing then you do not buy them in launch year anyhow as this is when they are at their most expensive.
He will be over the moon with an Xbox 360 I am sure especially if a few of his friends are getting them as well, the £199 for Minecraft and Fifa 14 sounds like an excellent deal, my son is Minecraft mad it makes me giggle as I remember playing games that looked similar way back on my Commodore Amiga!
Also if you want to have a game with him you will also need to buy an extra controller ans they generally only come with 1 and grab a charging base for the controllers as well, you can usually get them on offer for around a tenner they plug into the xbox and come with 2 rechargeable pack that fit the controllers otherwise buy shares in Duracell!

Amazon currently have the latest xbox 360 model with Fifa 2014 for £159.99
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-360-250GB-Console-FIFA/dp/B00E4LGMX0/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1382339929&sr=8-13&keywords=xbox+360+fifa
If he also wants minecraft then it's only around £14 so cheaper buying separately than the bundle you mentioned.
As mentioned before, in order to play/chat online, he will also need an Xbox Live account which is around £25-30 per year. You usually get a 48 hour live code with new games too.
As he's only 9, I strongly recommend looking at the following site and setting up parental controls:

Be aware that if you get him an Xbox 360 with the intention to play with his mates, you'll also need a decent broadband connection and a subscription to xbox live. Without these he'll still be able to play games on his xbox, but not with his friends.0

You only need around 2Mb to play games online.
Xbox live can be had for around £29 for a year.0 -
I don;t know what the current pricing is but I purchased a 'pre-owned' xbox 360 from Game earlier this year. From memory it was about £110 with fifa13 and I was swayed mostly by the 12 month warranty.
Extras you will most likely need are a headset and microphone (if not supplied with the xbox nowadays) so that your son can chat to friends. Maybe an extra that someone else can buy him at christmas if they are asking for ideas.
As already suggested an X-Box live membership will be a requirement - I think it was a good price on Amazon when we were looking.
And of course the games (which aren't cheap) - probably Fifa 14 and/or minecraft but I would guess your son will know already what he wants.
If there is a pre-owned xbox and fifa 14 bundle at Game with a 12 month warranty then I would seriously consider it.
Hope this helps.0 -
Just got 12 months Xbox live renewal from Sainsburys for 34-99, £5 cheaper than Microsoft online. Not the best I hear you say? Well after getting no protection from Ebay (digital transfers not covered so you're on your own) and Electronic First ( who now want an extra 20% for using Paypal) just to save a couple of quid in the past, I'm now fed up taking risks on whether or not the code will arrive. So I'm happy.0
