I had one, yesterday and as soon as the Asian man said 'Windows' I said 'That is a scam. Goodbye' and he rang off.

Kept it going for half an hour when they rang me.

"Click on the start button" Where's that?
"bottom left" There's no start button there.
    "what is there?" A penguin.

    He still didn't get it!

I had one but it was at my FIL's house and he doesnt even have a computer.

If i was at home near a PC i could have kept him on the line for ages and ages.

Download a file, open web pages. No problem.. downloading 1%..... 2%.... wait about 10x longer than it really took. Then say my hard drive light is stuck on. Is that normal?

Oh its flashing now. Mouse is sluggish though. What do i do next.

Mouse freezing.. OK now its moving. double click OK.. hard drive light staying on again.. stick phone really close if your drive makes a noise. Ask him if you can clean it or oil it to stop it making that noise.

Whilst downloading ask about the weather and where are they as you count off the % slowly. Tell them its cold and miserable here.

Your jobs annoying you, Overworking you too hard for a measly £2000 a week. Ask him how many hours and how hard would be work for such a trifling amount of money.
Tell them your partner does a similar job and earns 3x more than you.

If your male tell them you think your wife in bonking the boss, But the money is good. And she has a great body and please you in the bedrrom.

If your female say you think your husband is doing the same but your bonking the gardener whilst he is at work.

    :)

Have fun and enjoy yourself with them...

I wish I had thought of something like that.

Dithering old lady, not computer savvy, so a good target worth waiting for.

Hello Ive just had a phone call from windows saying they have detected harmful viruses on my computer (I use a laptop) Told them to ring back on Monday as I was at work. Are they for real? Done a check and my virus protector has detected some but has dealt with them.

Can anyone tell me if the phone call was genuine as he wanted me to have my computer turned on so he can go through what needs doing.

Im not that good on computers lol

That sounds totally dodgy to me. Microsoft don't call Windows users concerning viruses. It's unlikely they even have your phone number and personal details, so this is probably a company either trying to sell you something or scam you to get your personal details.

I would take their phone number, get as much info as you can about their company off them, and report them to Microsoft, ICO, OfCom and anyone else you can think of. Possibly the police via the report online crime form. Identity theft is rife and real risk to people not clued up. Even giving out innocent info or installing something they give you can open you up to serious fraud risks.

Hehe nice one. Wasting their time and keeping them on phone and pretending to be interested is good idea. Or you could say, this call is being recorded and you're speaking to a serious crime investigation officer, anything you say can and will be used as evidence. See how fast they hang up! lol

My mum strings them along a bit doing her doddery deaf old fool impression, then after a while casually asks how they know she has a problem with her computer which keeps them on a while longer. Before explaining that as a technophobe and confused oldie she doesn't actually own a computer.
Not actually true, but it does stop the repeat calls.
This is my ploy too, amuses my DH & DD!
