This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone
Thank goodness it's Friday!
Didn't get home until 9pm last night due to a disaster of a mix up with dates by DH, then had to start making food for a buffet in work today. It's supposed to cheer people up but seeing as everyone is totally depressed and demotivated, I think it will take a lot more than my Oriental rice salad to do that.
Need to run as usual, so will leave with well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those in need of them or anyone who just wants one. Keep well and safe and have a super dayLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Friday! Working tomorrow though.
Out to a friend's tonight so not much else will get done today. Simple tea of tikka wraps I think.
Dyed my hair red last night! I love it. It's quite bright so I hope work don't mind...
Pack lunch made, so will enjoy my coffee then off to the office.0 -
Morning all,
Cold here today but no rain atm, so will get some washing on the go, busy day today, I have the wood for our wardrobes being delivered today, I can't wait OH will start to build them tomorrow :T, I also have a man coming to collect the bags of clothes that we were supposed to be doing a boot sale with but never got round to, this should bring a few pennies in, I have promised it to my dd to put towards a pair of winter boots.
Also my wallpaper should come today as well. Yesterday I went through all downstairs, so today I shall do up, I clean when stressed to take my mind off of things, so the house is at least looking good !
Have good days all and thank you again for your support xx0 -
Morning All
Not sure what the weather is doing, it's still dark outside. Washing will probably go on the airers though. Used the TD yesterday as I had so much washing but it took forever to dry, not sure the TD works that well. Good job I only use it in an emergency.
DS2 should be coming home this evening, we have quite a few friends coming round for his last night before he's off travelling. I am just making rolls and sausage/bacon/potato scone etc for them later, quite easy really.
Someone came last night and bought my big table and chairs, there's a very big space now. The bed has gone and hopefully the bedside tables and a bookshelf will be collected today. I left some weights outside for someone to collect last night after I had gone to bed and they have gone.
Must go and do some cleaning, the kitchen's done but everywhere else is filthy from packing and moving furniture.
Hope you all have a good day. Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone
Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x
Dry, clear sky and chilly here this morning.
DH and DS1 up stupid early and gone to work.
Dinner last night was a cheeky chippy tea due to parents evening at DS2's school. Am awaiting them to get back in contact with me today - regarding why the extra help for DS2 in Maths has stopped without warning and he needs extra help with his English - I will await an email/telephone call - that I know will most probably not come and I will have to chase them yet again!
Was reasonably productive yesterday got going with the washing, drying, ironing, housework etc. Still more to go but will keep going today. Will be heading out shortly - DS2 school shut today due to a training day - why on earth they have a training day today - back to school for a week from Monday to Friday then next Friday finish for a week for half term! He has developed an awful rash that is quite itchy - but has no other symptoms at all - no cold, cough, headache, achy limbs - spoke to the Docs yesterday and couldn't get an appointment but have been told if I go with him this morning for when then open I should be able to get an appointment - I have told them that I've struggled trying to treat him at home all week (this appeared at the beginning of the week) so "he will be seen" by a Doctor/Nurse Practioner today.
Had a bit of a not nice episode last night - all the menfolk had gone to bed - due to stupid early start - and I was on pc in dining room and at 11pm there's a knock on the front door - and then someone started knocking on the front window - I won't open the door to people at that time of night, shouted DH and he got up and opened the bedroom window and called out to find out who was there and it was our neighbour from 2 doors up saying he had just come home into the back way (where the back entrances, garages and driveways are) and our back gate was swinging open and 2 "people" in hoodies were walking away from our property. The front and back gate are both always bolted at night and DH said he knows he bolted it last night - so they had reached over and opened it. We both got up and went out and had a check around, so we re-bolted the gate and then stacked some bricks near the bottom of it and we had a substantial piece of wood that I then used to prop the gate shut so if they thought they could come back and push on the gate they'd have some resistance - nothing seems to have been touched - although we don't really have anything in our garden worth taking - we're not really into that sort of thing - only the few bits and pieces in the shed etc. I will be ringing the non emergency Police No. today just to make them aware and it may be that there's been other cases/people having stuff taken etc. One of my jobs today is going to buy 2 more bolts and some paddlocks the bolts on both gates are near the top - so people could put their hand over and open so DH is going to put a bolt on the bottom of both (that will be unreachable as the gates go to the floor - then we will paddlock both bolts top and bottom, front and back gates at night - if there's any other bits I see I will look at those too. If we are going away we could start doing that from the inside then exiting the property via the front door but thats a huge amount of faff - as front and back of house are on separate roads and it's a bit of a walk from one to the other iyswim!
Have a good Friday everyone x
Keep safe and well x

Morning :hello:
Miss tru's blanket is fixed :T Remember, I burnt it with a candle – well, mr tru saw how annoyed I was so to cheer me up, he bought me some scented candles :rotfl:
There's a new Asda near us, doesn't look very big but we'll visit today and see what it's like. It's just off a dual carriageway so I can't walk there, but my bus route goes past the back of the estate it's on. You can't drive through the back, it's emergency vehicles only but I could walk through from the bus stop. For anyone that knows Gloucester, it's the Kingsway estate and unless you know it well (which I don't), you find yourself in the middle of it and can't find your way back out
I picked a few tomatoes yesterday, I thought they'd be the last but there's quite a few green ones still. I'll keep an eye on them and bring them in to ripen if it gets too cold. A couple of the plants have produced more flowersObviously they're not going to come to anything, but I'm going to leave them and see how long they struggle on for.
Not sure about my baby blanket - I've done a few rows and it just makes me think of a Cornish Blue utensil jar, zig-zag fashionI'll finish it then decide, it might look better when it has a border.
nmlc It's horrible when you realise someone's been in your garden. Master tru's bike was stolen a few years ago, although I was angry about that, it almost didn't matter. I was logical, could claim on the insurance for that. It was the fact that someone had been down the side of our house (where our bedroom is) so were just under our window, feet away from where we were sleeping. They'd been in my garden where we sit, and been in my shed where my kids things were. How dare they come into the space where my kids are at their safest. I wasn't upset, I was livid.Bulletproof0 -
Morning all, off to work again soon. My calendar is bursting today so it's going to be hard going!
Very relieved that my blood tests just showed a vitamin d deficiency and nothing more serious, but frustrated that it is going to take months of supplements and diet changes to have any affect on me. I don't mind the diet changes though - I do like dairy foods so being told to have more isn't a bad thing!!
Glad it's Friday. BF is still off work but today he has holiday booked. Fingers crossed he picks up over the weekend. His dad and granny are popping over in the morning so he will get himself downstairs for the first time in 3 days!
Hope everyone has a good day!the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0 -
Hope folk don't mind me joining in. I'm off work, potentially losing my job, so I'm back to belt tightening, and a frugal simple life. Got to gather in the last of the harvest (If you could see my tiny garden you'd realise how pathetic that is) however, we still have many pounds of cooking apples and eating apples to sort through. They can't stay in the shed, because of any future frosts. If anyone lives near Barnsley & would like some apples, let me know. I put the green tomatoes on a tray in the kitchen with a couple of bananas, and a large number of them ripened up that way. About time to go out for sloes and rose hips. So by being off work, my work load has just increased. My homeless son, Grandson & Not DIL are squeezed into a box room this morning. NDIL & GS live with her parents mostly, but both are not well, & battling with their inexperience with our welfare system after a good 40 years of employment & hard work. We're all in it together!!!!!0

Morning all,
nmlc - It's a horrible feeling isn't it? I had a shed broken into one night, years ago, we had a large garden then so it was relatively a long way from the house. Still made me feel invaded though and very angry.
tru - Did DH realise the irony of the scented candles?
Topher - sorry about the possible job loss.
Well sunshine here and no rain expected, so washing is on the line. Dropped DS2 at school this morning, he seems to find it increasingly difficult to get up in the mornings. I make him turn his tv and lights off at 11pm but have to go and shake him at half 7. He says the alarm doesn't wake him so I may go and buy one of those old fashioned bell ones!
Hoping to pop and see my dad today, he is only a few minutes drive away but he has quite an active social life and I can't ring him before about half 9 as he isn't up!
Chicken for tea tonight although I have yet to decide what to do with it!
Have a good day all0
