MSE News: British Gas hikes energy prices by 9.2%

Are you sure the high gas price is not just because they have a high number of gas customers who don't engage with the market?
I am sick of telling in laws to switch, they have NEVER moved so are with BG and what was Norweb (Eon?), on standard prices .
Keep offering to help them compare/move, but they won't "mess" with anything. Only took OH 25 years to convince them to stop renting a phone from BT !!!!.
There must be a solid group of people like that, who still talk about "the electric board, the gas board, the water board" and pay cash at the bank for bills each month. These companies all seem to rip them off knowing they will do nothing.

Might I be so bold as to say if we ALL contacted our own particular energy supplier stating we will only pay price increases at the of the current CPI of 2.7% - they might get the message ?
Any thoughts or comments ?0 -

Yes, they'll cut you off and take you to court for recovery of money due for the energy used.
My own thought is that all customers of one particular energy company should switch to another provider, leaving the original company with no customers and no income, which would send a very strong message to the others that they might be next. Having just initiated a switch away from BG I nominate them to be the fall guys.0 -

Remember to count in missing the £135 WHD into your figures. I think BG are the only company that do Fuel Poor as part of the Warm Home discount.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
Thanks yes I thought about that but other providers like Scottish power do same thing and I will be in broader group

Remember it can take 6 weeks to change supplier and the other supplier could close their WHD scheme at any time when they meet their allocated numbers. Do SP have a section for fuel poverty?
I've just checked and see no fuel poverty option http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/support-centre/service-and-standards/support/warm-home-discount
My apologies, I have just looked back at your post. As well as having a low income do you have one of the vulnerabilities? ie child under 5

Just a quick message to all of you who reminded me to contact BG and tell them about my intention to switch and the reason to waive cancellation fee. I now sent them a message via both email and online form0

There are 6 major energy firms. 2 are British. Why punish one of the largest UK based companies in the world. 40,000 people out of work, and still your prices don't change.0 -
