It took about 2 months for me to get my first win, but since then I have had about 2 good wins a month, with a few dry patches.
Your post highlights the problem with articles and programmes which show compers saying they have made x amount of money from comping - this is not the reality for most compers which is why most treat it as a hobby and not a profession.
I really hope you will be one of these lucky people that wins enough for it to be equivelant to a wage, but I would suggest trying to get your job back as for most the wins are no where near enough to be considered an income.
I hope my post does not come accross as harsh, as that is not my intention. I am just concerned that you have given up your job to enter more comps when it is obviously getting you down.
I hope some lovely wins come your way x£630/ £20140 -
Thank you for your kind words custard cream, yes I have got to obessed with trying to think I could win 10,000 or any ITV win! I was unhappy with my job and had down days but I am having regrets now.. I have a family who support me no matter what, just wanted a nice little surprise to keep my spirits up x0

you shouldt see it as a income making scheme-it just doesnt work that way
i havent won anything snce last december its just one of those thingsWhat goes around-comes around0 -
I would suggest you try to get a job which suits you better, but comp as a hobby. Best of both worlds. I have had a dry spell since June, but they turn up when you least expect them. Keep the faith.0

I've been comping since June and have entered hundreds a day. At first I was disheartened like you but I have come to find that it can take a few months to start seeing results. Some competitions take a while for the prize to be awarded. For example, my first big prize I won (the Asda vouchers), the comp ended a month before I got notified. I have been getting 1 big win a month but last week I got a small win every day.
I do think that quitting your job to do this was a bit extreme. I personally only do this as I am out of work at the moment so I have loads of free time. Perhaps you should enter more to make your comping worthwhile now that you are out of work. You've got to think of this as your full time job now and not a hobby since you are relying on this as your income.
I wish you all the best and hope you do well. But as I am the author of the jealousy thread I must add that the big money prizes are MINE so stay away. :rotfl:0 -
I am very much a Newbie to this, as I have only just started. I don't expect to see any results for some time but I am also out of work due to redundancy. I'm still looking for full time work this is just something to do in the spare time when not looking for work... Wish you well though.. Good Luck.2013 win. - £1125 Next Spending money, £100 Look Makeup Vouchers, £100 Hair products from Toni & Guy, £350 Overnight stay in London, £70 Naked Wine Case, £300 Afternoon spa with bubbly:j - Not a bad effort really!0

Please do not see comping as a full time job - it will only end up with you getting depressed and extremely broke! You will get a better return from working than you will from entering competitions, especially if you are only entering the ones for big prizes, which have thousands of entrants. Someone on this forum once worked out an hourly rate for comping based on the prizes they had won and the time they spent entering competitions and it was well below the minimum wage.
I have been comping intermittently for a couple of years and have hardly won anything. I started off entering every competition that interested me but I just couldn't keep up with them, so in the end I decided to just dip in and out of it occasionally instead of letting it rule my life. I still like to dream of winning an ITV prize one day, but if I don't then at least my job pays the bills and I can save up to buy some of those lovely items that I haven't managed to win yet.“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” - Dr Seuss0 -
I've been comping for a couple of years now and my wins put together, I don't think, is anymore than 2k. Also, I don't win anymore now (on maternity leave) than I did when I worked full time. I still enter the same amount of comps....
Your obviously feeling a bit down at the moment. Concentrate on getting your life back together and search for a new job. Your luck will come one day but don't expect to win big. Yes people do win big prizes, but you could be waiting a lifetime. xThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
As it's all pretty much based on luck you still have to keep in mind the fact that you may not win anything... we all do.0

I always think, if you're low on luck you should stop. Have a little break or change your routine. Do some dailies, have a go at an effort comp - try a video on twitter.
All depends on how you see and what you hope to achieve from comping. Do you want big prizes - little stocking filler for christmas? It's up to you to make your luck and believe you will win at some point and have that positive outlookxx
Trust me - the advents are coming and they are the best time to win thingsxx
