I always take English sterling, you can change in many places at very good rates, and I also use my debit card on the ATM's. There is really no need for travellers cheques. I am also off to India for 6 weeks in January, I just love Goa, the most expensive part is getting there, but it is very cheap for everything once you are there. VFS is the best way to get a visa.0

VFS is the best way to get a visa.
VFS Global is the cheapest way to get a visa
Even if you use a visa agent you have to answer the same questions that are on the application form.
Agents still have to go through VFS Global on your behalf so you are putting an extra step into the process and paying a premium for that.
There is a very good step-by-step guide to completing the application form on the Tripadvisor Goa forum.
I posted my visa application on Tues 15th October at 16:00, it was delivered back to me before midday on Saturday 19th October.
I doubt an agent could manage it more speedily than that.
There was a thread recently on TA about an agent (not Visa Genie) who took a month to sort out someone's visa.
To get back on-topic, I take sterling - not traveller's cheques.0
