Forget travellers cheques. Draw money out atm with either a debit/ credit card or a global prepaid card.

INR is a close currency and so take USD to be changed at the airport just to account for the fact the ATM may not work.Going to southern India soon. Any advice on money and cards to take? Also are sterling travellers cheques still available and where?

I always take the FairFX and have never had a problem.
Money converters in India are like physicists in terms of their mathematically ability and so get the XE.com app on your phone to ensure you aren't getting screwed.

I second that
Also I use the Claxton FX Global card when outside the EU, it works well.
ALso best rates you will get over there so take lots of cash0 -
Hyderabad has loads of ATMs and I never had any trouble using them. So I never bothered with other ways of taking money.0

Have you done anything about your visa yet?
Hi Pollycat
In past have used Visa Genie .There's a handling charge but service is speedy and hassle free.
Applying for the visa is hassle free and expensive enough without the needless input from hustlers trying to shake you down for a so called handling fee.
VFS are fantastic and I have used them for a few different visas.0 -
Ditto. You have to give them all the info anyway, so there isnt really any point of going anywhere other than VFS0

It is 100 rps to £ at the moment so not much calculating needed.
