Your NCD wouldn't apply anyway if you were the named driver.

When you go through their quote system, it says:-

Important: we can only accept your No Claims Bonus if:
You can provide written proof, in English.
Your no claims bonus was earned on a private car in the UK
Your no claims bonus is not being used on any other car insurance policy.
Your written proof is from a policy that expired within the last 2 years.

Like most people, no-one reads through the small print although bit of a tough lesson to learn as i definitely will start

I wouldnt cancel anything if the other company wont help then its going to cost more with cancellation charges.

If the no claims belongs to you are you the policyholder on both?

Im puzzled about how you have it all setup.

You had a car with yourself as the policy holder and main driver...yes.

You then got a 2nd car.. For the wife to learn to drive in? Or also your car?

Whose name was the policy taken out in? Yours or your wifes? Who is the policy holder?
How long have you owned that car?

Either way the no claims earned on the 2nd car started at nil unless you were offered an introductory discount and it belongs to the policy holder.

Just to confuse matters, It may be possible to switch the policy between spouses.

My head hurts... I hope i got that right...

My head also aches, i should say i made a mistake, I do have my own car, then we bought my wife a car, put the new car in her name but the mistake was i said i was a named driver on her policy, turns out i am the policy holder on her car as well and she is a named driver on it.
The new car (my wifes) is a July purchase whereas my car is old although i have just renewed my policy in the last week. I am wandering if there is a cooling down period whereby i am able to cancel my insurance policy on my car and then keep the NCD on my other policy (my wifes car)...confused, i am and its only the beginning of the day.

You should be able to cancel, though you cannot then transfer the ncd into the other policy mid term.

To use your ncd on the new car your easiest way is to change over cars on your existing policy and buy a new policy for your old car or put it on the new policy and pay up the difference as you have nil ncd to use on it (if they will let you).

You need to take care they don't cancel the policy you took out on the new car - this is a possibility if you dont come clean over the ncd situation, and would have everlasting expensive repercussions for you.
