I am still amazed that only Microsoft Money (obsolete, but still going with help from the community) seems to be usable as software to track stock/fund prices, calculate capital gains, income, and movements between cash and investment accounts.
That's a very fair point (software rather than website), and it's what I originally thought, but then I took my cue from the three posters who replied before me. Blame them! Blame them!0 -

Cheers,

LSE is London South East, which is cleverly cybersquatting on the London Stock Exchange domain name and not the London Stock Exchange at all

London Stock Exchange is here

MS Money can be downloaded for free from the MS website.
However (and this is a big issue) they have stopped doing updates to share and fund prices from within the software. There are several methods available to get price updates but they aren't totally seamless and need an amount of computer/software knowledge to get them working.
Having said that I still use MS Money and it is a real shame they decided to can the product.
Download link for free version of MS Money here

Try Moneydance.
It's a similar program and also keeps track of stock prices.0 -
For me its just Excel, and link to the web to get prices. Very customisable.
Tradestation is a common package for traders to use, has very good charts and testing.
But really I just use my broker, SaxoBank which gives me live prices from the exchange on anything they deal in.
Unless you are a really serious day trader, you dont need these super accurate to the millisecond price feeds.Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.0 -
If you're just doing plain stocks and shares, getting hold of the data isn't a problem. But if you're doing funds, many programs and websites don't carry UK fund data, particularly the ones oriented at the US. So check to see if they'll carry the investments you want.
Either way, it seems like websites have the edge as they're already plumbed into the live price data rather than having to download updates to your PC. funds.ft.com looks quite nice in that it can track transactions, though I haven't used it in anger0 -

Moneydance looks interesting, but with no trial download feature, that I can find, I will not be using it. I have tried too many other progs that claim to do what I want, but don't in practise (eg cannot download all UK funds in £, cannot track cap gains, cannot download bank/CC transactions, cannot import years of MS Money transactions, do not create files all over the place for no apparent reason etc etc).
Unless I see some good, recent reviews from UK users....0 -
The best software I've found is Sharescope. You sign up for an account. I think it's about £20 pm and you can add Mobile for a little extra. The program is on your PC and updated twice a day. You can zoom through 1000's of shares in a fraction of the time it takes to look them up on websites. Plus there are loads of extras. Brilliant Software. Well worth the money if you're a serious trader or spread trader.0
