DVD Player connections to TV & playback problems!

Hi - Update Model numbers: The DVD Video Recorder is JVC DR-MX10SEK & The DVD surround sound system is SONY Compact AV System DAV-S300.
I have had a go at looking at the settings using the remote controls. I cannot work out how to set either of them to composite! It does not actually say that on either of them unless it is called something else in the settings! On the SONY system under the heading CD/DVD it says signal format system PAL/(NTSC) On mine in the settings the colour set up is on AUTO (the other options are PAL & NTSC4.43 & NTSC3.58) I tried both of these settings but this did not make any difference so have put back to AUTO. Does this make any sense to you as I am afraid it means nothing to me!0 -
Of the settings you list, you want PAL for both of them, at least while we're testing.
Here's the manual for your JVC:
http://uk.jvc-service.net/public/document.cfm?prog=InstrBook.cfm&Model=DR-MX10
Page 29 is what you want. They seem to call 'Composite' just 'Video' - set all SCART outputs to 'Video'.
For the Sony, the UK website isn't working at the minute, and the model I found in America doesn't have any SCART sockets (I assume yours does?) and also doesn't have any settings for what type of output to use.
So let's try working on the JVC for now. I'll bet if you get it working on AV1 it'll work on the others...0 -
Thanks almillar ..... am sorry to say still no success!! I have set all SCART outputs to Video. I have followed the instructions on P29 of JVC manual in fact the settings did seem to be correct already. I have tried again unplugging the scart from the vision box from AV1 & then plugging the SCART lead from the JVC into AV1/EXT1 but no joy all I get is a blue/black stripe screen. Then tried the SCART lead from the JVC in SCARTS 2 & 3 (EXT2 & EXT 3) but just the same! I then plugged the SCART from the vision box back into AV1/EXT1 & it is working fine.
Re my SONY DVD player it does not have any SCARTS on the back I am using a wire (video cord) with a yellow end plugged into a SCART adaptor.
Do you know if it is possible that BT vision (I have BT BB infinity) could stop the other inputs working properly?0 -
No the BT Vision shouldn't affect it, especially when it's not plugged in!
Here's one - since the Sony isn't SCART, do you have phono connections on the TV - yellow, red and white? Maybe behind a panel. If so, try getting rid of the SCART adaptor, an plugging the Sony directly into the yellow phono (and red and white for sound).
You should also be able to test the JVC in the same way, into the yellow plug on the TV.
Also, whilst in the SCART on the TV, on the JVC, can you experiment with the different modes - RGB, S-Video and Video - RGB should work on AV1 and be best quality.0 -
Hi almillar Yes I have already tried plugging the yellow ended phono connection directly into the TV (the connections are behind a drop down panel on the front of TV) Unfortunately just the exact same fuzzy B/W picture with blue/pink lines)!! I will try with the JVC & also your other suggestion with JVC, RGB setting in AV1. Thanks again it is so frustrating.....!0

A bit more info...... Tonight I borrowed a Phillips DVD player & plugged it in using the the yellow, red & white cord directly into the sockets on the front of the TV. Same problem as the other DVD players, the TV recognises the DVD player, I can get a picture & sound but only B/W fuzzy with the green/pink stripe. It would seem it is definitely a problem with the TV!0

Hi almillar .... I have had some success this morning...... I unplugged all SCARTS from back of TV then I just plugged the JVC DVD player into SCART 1 (the one that the vision box is usually plugged into). I then went into the settings of the JVC player as you suggested & changed L-1 Output to SCART RGB (from SCART VIDEO) hey presto it worked.... got a very clear colour picture & tested a DVD & worked perfectly. So we have managed to prove the JVC is fine in SCART 1 with RGB setting.
Moving on I tried to do the same process with the SONY DVD player but no success.... when I go into the settings on the SONY player there is no option to change to RGB.
I then moved the Scart plug for the JVC back to SCART 2 & plugged the vision box back in to Scart 1. Vision box works perfectly but JVC back to a black & white screen, by leaving the setting on RGB I seem to have got rid of the flicker but there is no colour!
It seems as if SCARTS 2&3 on the back of the TV have stopped working properly but whatever is causing this the front TV inputs have stopped functioning properly as well!
Is it possible that some sort of fuse could have gone in the TV for these inputs only?
Well the good thing is I can watch DVD's now but each time I will have to swap the SCARTS in AV1 over!0 -
Unfortunately, I've come round to the same way of thinking - three out of four of your inputs seem to have become faulty!
I wouldn't have thought there would be a fuse gone for inputs.
There's a workaround - a SCART switch, and you can even get a remote controlled one. It would plug into SCART 1 on TV, then you plug BT VISION and the 2 DVDs into it. I also bet that if you plug the Sony, through the little SCART block you have, into SCART1, that it'll work too. Might be worth thinking about a new TV though...
Or Gumtree/Freecycle to replace the TV very cheaply or free.0 -
Thank You almillar for all your help on this.... I do appreciate it. If you do think of anything else please let me know. I will make do for now with the workaround but looks like I will be looking for a new TV, maybe before Christmas! You do seem a bit of an expert on TV's would you mind giving advice on a new one or some advice on best places for me to research.... Thanks again0
-
Thanks... I did try plugging the SONY Scart block I have into scart 1 but still fuzzy & B/W. I think you solved it by the change to RGB in the settings but I think maybe my SONY does not have the option for RGB as it is about 10 yrs old! Great machine though when I can get it to work! I will buy the SCART switch you have suggested. Do you know if Amazon sell them & would it be possible for you to send me a link to one so I buy the correct one. (Not sure if we are allowed to post links on these forums?) I will look on Amazon now.0
