Car Impounded!
Hi,
My friends car was recently stolen.
It was found about 2 weeks ago when the police called him up to tell him it is in the pound and that it wouldnt cost anything.
He rang the pound and they said it would cost £1000 to get the car.
The police said legally they were in their right to claim the car for free, but the task force investigating have been on holiday and the pound will not release the car until they pay (being my friend).
What would be the next step for this if anyone could advise I would be greatly humbled as they just don't have this money.
Thanks
Dave

I may be way off, but surely his insurance should be covering the fees involved.0

Hi,
No, as they cancelled their insurance once the car was stolen.0 -
Did they make a claim on the insurance when it was stolen?0

Your friend needs to post himself.
Questions only he can answer need to be asked and answered quickly.Be happy...;)0 -
Hi thanks for the reply.
My friend did not claim on insurance as the car is not worth that much.
Any ideas or sugestions going forward in terms of what his legal rights are in retrieving the car or what his next step should be?
Thanks0 -
If the car's not worth claiming on then it's definitely not worth paying £1000 for it.0

They wont release the car unless he has insurance, if it was not worth claiming for, why is it worth collecting ?Be happy...;)0

Guys thanks for the comments I really appreciate it, but as he does not have money for a new car :what is his legal rights in retrieving the car or what should his next step be?
Ignore the insurance etc I just need to know the answer to this question.
Thanks0 -
You cant ignore the insurance as this is both who normally pays for it and arranges its release plus insurance is required to be able to get it released.
If it wasnt worth claiming for then it presumably is worth less than the grand of fees so why not sign it over to them to scrap0
