cats are very very good at hiding their hurts until they get bad, so don't blame yourself. you went and got help for it as soon as you knew, doing what was best for your cat. she'll be home soon and i bet she'll be wanting her cuddles!

Oohhh, an abscess, poor little thing:eek:. Had that have been a human they would have been screaming in agony. Cats (and dogs for that matter) are so stoic.

So, so pleased it was nothing worse than that, she must have had some kind of foreign object in there somewhere. Your vet sounds nice as well, being willing to do it straight away.

And don't worry about what they thought of you. I expect they've seen people in a much worse state.

Hope she's not too traumatised by it all, I'm sure she'll be back to normal soon.

Glad she's "ok" now. Poor wee thing. That abscess must have been painful.

As to your original question, no, I don't think you're awful. I think there's a lot to be said for euthanasia rather than allowing elderly pets to go through a barrel of expensive and stressful tests which might not make any difference. In those cases, its kinder to pts.

I'm glad that time hasn't arrived for Rosie. I always cry when someone posts that their animal has gone to rainbow bridge.

Just seen this, glad it wasn't anything more serious and hope she is feeling better soon....and you. I think I was more traumatised than my cat when she had a abscess as it was so big.
she'll feel much better now it's been sorted.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Well she is home and doing really well, I was a bit worried at first as she was very sleepy and cold.
She has spent all evening on my lap wrapped in her spiderman blanket fast asleep.
Shes up now eating and drinking and walking on it albeit slightly tentatively.
She tried to get me to let her out, she isn't amused by the litter tray in the slightest, but she gave up pretty quickly.
They left the wound open and she keeps licking it so am a bit worried about that.
All in all I am just thankful she came home.
Thanks for all your kind words they mean a lot to me x x

P.s am slightly concerned about the cat litter getting in her wound, wondering if its because its sharp she doesn't want to use it.
Maybe I should just put paper down?

Can you get soil from the garden?
Sieve it into the tray or something to get rid if any sharp bits.
I had to do this for mine when she had big op and wasn't allowed out ( not the sieve bit) she wasn't happy with litter so soil it was.

Oh and you are and were doing what you thought was best.

you could bathe the wound with salt water, it's probably been left open just to allow it to drain.

keep an eye on it and if it looks like it's not healing, take her back to the vets.
