clamping threatened in works car park

The title says it all really, I work in a secondary school, in the bstaff carpark (we access with a key fob), there is approximatly 60ish spaces and everymorning at least 15/20 cars are unable to park because there is not enough spaces, all the roads around the school have either parking restrictions/ or meters. This has led to some parking oddly or on some occasions double parking, not something I have ever or would ever do, I arrive at work 30/40 mins early to guarantee a parking space, there is no other way for me to get to work other than by car. Today we have all recieved an internal email telling us that cars parked like this and those not displaying school badge on windscreen will be clamped with a £20 release fee, my question is really for my collegue who always parks imaginatively (at right angles to other cars! etc) are they allowed to do this! Thank you

We had a similar thing (no mention of clamping though) but the 'penalty' was a £10 charge.
Where does the head teacher and the other 'senior management' park?
It needs you all to club together, put £1 each in the fighting fund, then box them in one day soon and delay paying the release fee till the next day.0 -
I like that idea iceweasel but unfortunatly the senior management and head all have their own car park at the front of the school with the schools security officer  watching over them so they do not have the same issues as the rest of the staff!Fibro-Warrior0

Typical - and I'll bet they have soft quilted toilet paper in their exclusive 'rest-rooms'.

I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure to even suggest clamping a car on private land is now illegal, never mind actually carrying it out! It sounds like someone has thought this up as a good way to worry people into parking differently without actually checking if it is allowed or not! If you or any of your colleagues get clamped – call the police!0

There are exceptions but since the Protection Of Freedoms Act came into force on 1st October 2012 clamping of vehicles on private land is illegal. The maximum penalty for the offence is an unlimited fine on conviction in the crown court; or a fine of up to the statutory maximum [currently £5,000] in the Magistrates‟ court.0

Clamping on private land without lawful authority is now a criminal offence, the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 specifically outlawed clamping. They would be in serious trouble if they actually clampedWhen posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.

It's mad in a situation where at a building where the same people turn up at the same time every day all through the year the head hasn't taken the initiative to promote car sharing, rather than use a stick to beat and 'P' off staff.
Most Councils have a travel plan coordinator. They would have a car sharing pool sorted within a day.0 -
One of the exemptions is for council managed car-parks.
If the local council 'own' the school and therefore the car park too, this could well be one of the allowed cases.
Bit of a grey area I think.0 -
There is no grey area at all, there would have to be an order on the land to allow clamping, also there would have to be signs etc. as I said lawful authority, I don't believe any school will have this and though council owned it's still private landWhen posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They might already have one, but not everybody lives local or starts and finishes at the same time (even at a school you can't guarantee that you'll all leave at the same time).0
