Two sim cards in one phone?

Hi there,

I'm sure I read on here somewhere about some kind of device that allows you to have two sim cards in your phone and switch between them. I'm just thinking about the free orange sims which give you 1000 texts. My DD1 has a contract for 250 mins and 100texts but always uses loads of texts and I wondered if I could get her this second sim so she could switch between them.

Thanks for your help :o

i think you mean a ghost sim
    they sell them here:

you can only have one sim working at any one time though.

there are also phones available that can run both sims at the same time for about £140
  • I used to have one of these for a Nokia I once owned. If memory is correct, it was a replacement back cover that comprised of a switch on outside and the 2 sim cards were inserted inside the cover. A cable linked the 2 sims to a false one which went into the original sim card slot on the phone.

It was not possible to use both sims at same time so switching between was essential - that meant of course that people would need to know exactly what number to catch me on if I didn't want to miss calls.

Probably different versions of these things around still - I owned 2 different ones.

I'm wondering if it could be cheaper to upgrade the contract and avoid the hassle of sim switching especially as it costs £10 a month minimum cost to get the orange texts (according to my son who has one of these orange sims).

You can probably buy them at some mobile phone shops (I don't mean the big brands - the type that do unlocking and accessories, that sort of thing) or market stalls.

You can also 'cut' your 2 (or more sims) - insert them into a 'sim jacket' and pop it into your phone.

    she could change priceplan

    http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/paymonthly

or add a text bundle to her contract which will work out cheaper,

how much does her 250 mins and 100texts cost ? how much is the average bill ?
what proportion of that plan overspend is mobile calling/texts/01 & 02 landline numbers - I ask as that old orange plan is poor value compared to thier current priceplans - you can move to any higher priceplan even within the 6/9 month midway point where you usually cant

i think her plan is that old and I question - is upgrade time nearly due ?

PM mail details if you wish rather than posting

    current text plans -

    Dolphin £30

    200
    anytime
    minutes

    unlimited anytime texts

+ you can get the free broadband on that, or spend 5.00 more and get

    Dolphin £35

    600
    anytime
    minutes

unlimited anytime texts & again with free broadband

if im not mistaken her priceplan is the old 25.00 one is it not ?

There's also of course, Orange Line 2 - if you want 2 separate Orange tariffs on the same SIM.
