Not being trained to use the till correctly has nothing to do with using petty cash for your own means, it is common sense to know that that money is for business purposes only.
That being said were does the company stand on the issue of the 'charmer' who reported you but was actually the one who agreed to use the money for your parcel?

No it's not custom practise as petty cash is rarely used. I'm the store manager. So I make sure my team get breaks. But when it's so busy and I'm trying to get a break when there is only 2 colleagues in the entire store due to payroll cuts, and the tannoy is calling for help how can I sit on a break?

I fully accept I'm in the wrong. But I am terrified I will be dismissed. It wasn't malicious or deceptive, it was a mistake.

Petty cash is covered in till procedure training I was told on Friday. As all petty cash is paid out from there.

What happened was he took £30 out for the post (I said I'd pay for mine when he got back) and when he got back I should have given him £10 cash then the money be paid back into the till. This way petty cash wasnt used for personal post. So it wasn't my intention to use petty cash to pay for my postage.
I didn't realise I didn't have my purse with me. So I had inadvertently put myself in the mess I'm in.

Yes somewhere on the back office system. I've asked for a copy to be sent with the copy of investigation notes.

I guess he could argue as I'm his manager he did as he was asked.
I'm sick of hearing him undermine me and tell me how when he is store manager blah blah....he is a nightmare deputy and I feel like I've been set up. I know I'm responsible but any normal supportive deputy or colleague wouldn't have behaved like this.

You, and every employee, should have access to it and indeed have their own copy.

That should have a copy of the company disciplinary procedure, if not you should get that too as it sounds as if tour emitters have failed in following the correct procedure.

Last week my deputy went to the post office with work related post. I asked him to take a parcel of mine as I've not even had chance to get to the post office given the hours I'm working. He had money from petty cash and I said when you get back ill sort out how much mine costs.

When he got back I realised I'd left my purse at home I told him I'd Have to pay it back the next day and would he please remind me. He said 'I wouldn't bother' to which I replied no ill pay it back, I'm not like that! He said whatever. He didn't mention it again and I've been working 12- 14 hour days since. I totally forgot about it.

    .

    Is that how it happened?

He went to the post office with company post and money from petty cash, and you asked if he could post yours and you'll sort it out with him later. Or did you ask him to send it pay for it out of petty cash?

If you just asked him to send it and you'll sort it out later, I personally, would use the argument that you didn't ask him to pay for it out of petty cash.

That's exactly how it happened. He was stood there when I went to get my purse out of my handbag and found I'd left it at home. I never leave it at home but the night before I went to the garage for milk on my way home and must have put it on the kitchen side. The day before I'd worked 7 am to 10pm, and was shattered hence me forgetting it.

So you didn't actually ask him to pay for it out of petty cash, it was his decision to do that
