Washing Machines- Best warranties.

A lot has been written about of various forums about Washing Machines breaking down within 3 years of purchase. Most manufacturers only offer a standard 1 year warranty whilst I known Bosch offer a 2 year one. I believe LG also offer that. To take out an extended guarantee is very expensive or does anyone know of a cheaper way. it a shame some companies do not follow Richer sounds example an offer an extended 5 years warranty for 10% of the purchase price.

Had many wm over the years all have last many years current one a Hotpoint is at least 8 years old. I suppose a warranty is just peace of mind I rather take the risk. I think John Lewis do some extended warranties as standard yep many are 2 years

Just bought a Siemens washing machine for just over £400, which came with 5 year parts and labour warranty. So hopefully will get 5years minimum.

Miele frequently offer 10 year warranties on washing machines. Without a doubt the best laundry appliances on the market

  • The Majority of washing machines seem to only carry a 1 year manufacturers warranty. Bosch and LG have 2 years.AEG gives a 5 years warranty on most of its machines. Samsung and Panasonic models have a special offer of an extended 5 year warranty I believe until Spring 2014 and Miele is about 5 years (not certain). It also worth negotiating with the retailer to see if you can obtain an extra year or two on warranty in the deal. Not easy but it can happen We got an extra year with our Bosch Washing machine

We got a Bosch about 8 years ago from John Lewis with a 3 year warranty. When that ran out Bosch quoted £80 a year for a maintenance contract (which would probably have gone up each year as the machine aged). I decided to 'self-insure' and have put £80 a year into a 'washing machine fund' which now contains £400. Never had any problems with the machine and I reckon that we're well in profit now as these warranties don't replace a machine that's beyond repair.
  • Different manufacturers offer different lengths of time.

John Lewis now offer 2 years on all electrical and electronic goods they sell plus longer on TVs.

If you want to take out an extended warranty to last last long than the standard guarantee make sure you shop around and compare the cost of the extended warranty and the product together.

I have made a chart showing all the information but as a new user I can not link to it or insert it into this post.

This is the best I can do:
    • AEG offer 2 years extended guarantee if you register the product with them.
    • BEKO offer one year as standard and up to 5 years cover which they call Beko Protection Plan at an additional cost through Domestic and General.
    • Bosch offer 1 years as standard and a second year for free if you register your details on line. They offer to extend upto 5 years in total for a fee. The payable cover is provided through Domestic and General.
    • Hotpoint offer upto 4 years cover for an additional premium on top of the 1 year it provides as standard for its products. This cover is provided by Domestic and General.
    • Indesit offer a five years parts guarantee if you register on their site. They offer upto 4 years cover for an additional premium on top of the 1 year it provides as standard for its products. This cover is provided by Domestic and General.
    • Miele offer 2 years as standard, 5 years on occasion as a promotion but upto 10 years for £149 if bought at point of purchase. This cover is provided by Domestic and General.
    • Neff offer 2 years as standard and an optional 1 or 2 years cover through a partnership with Domestic and General.
    • Samsung offer 24 months guarantee as stand on all washing machines. They ask that you register your product after purchase but not make clear if this is compulsory.
    • Whirlpool offers 1 full years’ Parts and Labour guarantee, PLUS an extra 5 years’ Parts Warranty completely free of charge if you buy directly from their website. If you purchased the product through one of their partners you get 1 year and the option to extend the cover at a cost through a partnership with Domestic and General. If you bought the product through Ikea you get a free cover which includes 5-year call-out, parts and labour guarantee. As long as you fill out and return the registration card with 30 days of purchase.
  • Having the peace of mind for an extended guarantee is very important to us especially after reading recently how some people have experienced severe problems when the washing machine is under 3 years old. There are several ways of looking at it. You can buy one of the less reliable brands like Zanussi and Hotpoint which are cheaper and give only a one year free warranty and then purchase an extended 5 year warranty for about £120. John Lewis offer a 2 year warranty on all washing machines it sells including the cheaper brands. All Bosch washing machines carry a manufactuers 2 years warranty. At the monent Samsung are offering an extended 5 year warranty on all is Eco Bubble washing machine ( i don't know much about Samsungs reliablity when it comes to washing machines) Also which is interesting LG are offering a 10 year warranty on some of its Direct Drive washing machine, but what is not clear if this only apllies to the motor and not parts like the heating element, pump etc.(Can anyone elaborate on this point). Some credit card companies offer an additional years guarantee. What is important with warranties is to ensure they cover both labour and all parts. Always read the small print .It also worth reading the reviews on various washing machines to get some indication of their reliability

We went Currys to look at washing machines and specifically the length of warranties they offer. Samsung are offering a 5 year warranty for parts and labour on their ECO Bubble machines and that is a real incentive knowing you won't have to fork out for any repairs for 5 years. Miele and AEG were also offering a 5 year warranty but their machines were a lot more expensive. LG and Bosch were offering 2 year warranty and I was told all the rest were giving a 1 year warranty. The salwsman said Zanussi were not as good as they used to be and they had reports of increasing unreliability. He did add if we purchased Currys ridiculously expensive 5 year warranty the total cost would not be much more than a Samsung, which he did admit was the best deal at the moment. He added as part of his sales pitch it could be withdrawn at any time and it would be best if we brought one today!!!. We did not take his advise especially as Samsungs web site states the extended guarantee offer on these washing machine would be available into early 2015. You can buy cheaper extended guarantees elsewhere and in this case it might be worth considering buying a cheaper brand washing machine adding on the 5 year warranty cost and the total may not be much different to a Samsung, LG or Bosch.

My AEG machine came with a five year warranty.

Otherwise, also look at the benefits that come with some current accounts and credit cards - my Barclaycard and my Nationwide current account both offer an additional year's extended warranty for free on electricals the come with one or two year's warranty (i.e. they won't extend beyond three years). There's no need to register items, they're covered automatically if they're bought with the Barclaycard, or under the Nationwide offer they're just covered as long as the account holder bought the item, no matter how they paid for it.
