Its obvious there isn't a tree on your fathers land and you are just planning on trying to kill the tree(s) next to your new property

It was this load of cobblers that alerted me:
"I am a herbicide sprayer by trade so have access to roundup pro biactive what would be the process using weed killer? Only ever sprayed small invasive weeds previously."
Anyone who sprays professionally would know the answers.
They would also be aware that,at present, anyone can get Roundup Biactive 450 if they know where to go.
Moral: If you are going to fib to the regulars on MSE, do your homework. Better still, don't lie to us at all.

If you really need to kill it you can strip the bark off from a strip around the trunk. Most broadleaf trees will sprout from the trunk below where the bark has been stripped and you'll need to use herbicide on it, most conifers will not.
Just on a side. I have an apple and a plum tree, both mature, that I want to 'make' smaller, could I just do this half way down the trunk, and would new branches develop there, so I can eventually half the size of the trees?“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”
