I just couldnt afford it. We are in the process of buying a house and husband has just gone self employed.
probably the wrong time for me to go part time:rolleyes:2014 = New Year, New Me0 -
You'd probably be able to get some sort of discount as you'd be working part time0

If you are looking at starting a family in the near future then it may be worth your while sticking with your existing job for a little bit longer? You are more likely to get a good maternity package if you have worked for a company for more than a year or two, which if you change jobs you will effectively forfeit. All new mums are now entitled to 12 months maternity leave now with a minumum of 9 months Statutory Maternity Pay (currently about £112 per week) but as I say, some companies over and above that. My old company used to give you full pay for 6 months! You could then use the time off to look at your options, perhaps even looking at part time courses etc, and if you are in a sure start area there are lots of free ones with free creche facilities too. You don't have to pay back SMP if you decide not to return to your old job (although check the T&C of your employment to see if there are any clauses about additional maternity pay they give you).
Don't forget, once you have a child you will be entitled to things like Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits.
Look at www.entitledto.co.uk and www.hmrc.gov.uk for more info about what you could expect to get.0 -
Thats another of the reasons I am looking to leave my curent position as they only give you 6 weeks at 90% pay then just stat. Also I couldnt face the 3 hour commute when pregnant. We arent looking to start a family for 18 months to 2 years anyway so it would give me time to build up service in a new job.
I didnt get the job I applied for last week. Absoloutley gutted!!!2014 = New Year, New Me0 -
Awww... sorry you didn't get the job. With your HR skills and wishing to start a family in a couple of years to become a SAHM... have you thought about trying to get a secretarial/admin/personel job in a school? Then, when you've had your family and they are old enough for you to return to work you might find working in a school would be helpful for holidays etc!“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

I suppose that is my ideal job. I apply for everyone that comes up (they are few and far between - seems they are evryone's ideal job. I have never even had an interview. My mum works in a scholl and says they just advertise because they have to and almost always have someone in mind.2014 = New Year, New Me0

Sorry if this is teaching you to suck eggs... but have you tried contacting your local education authority and getting advice from them re where/how they advertise jobs both in schools and in their own offices? Are you on their vacancies mailing list?“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

Hi there
Have you tried your local council authority jobs website?? they dont normally advertise in the local paper ( well mine dont anyway) but usually have quite a few admin type vacancies.
Good luck anyway!!
