iPhone iOS 7 upgrade - problem with iMessage?

We have two iPhone 5's (5 not 5s)... One was updated to iOS 7.0.2 last week. Other than an App that is no longer supported refusing to work, it all seemed fine.

This weekend I updated the other iPhone 5 straight from iOS 6 to iOS 7.0.2 and quickly discovered a problem with iMessage not working between them, Facetime may also have had issues. There are several reports on the web of iMessaging being slow, or not working, after upgrading.

The work around is fairly simple:

1. Turn off iMessage in Settings/Messages
2. Under Settings/General find "Reset" and Reset Network Settings.
3. After the phone re-starts, turn on iMessage again.

You may have to re-enter WiFi passwords after a network reset.

We are now able to use iMessage again without problems. Apple are said to be aware of the issue.

  • My iMessage is working but Bluetooth isn't, has this happened to anyone else?
Won't connect to car (vauxhall built in Bluetooth) and iPhone wouldn't pick up iPad (vice versa) yesterday

Have you tried a reset? There are a few similar issues listed on Apple Support pages with resetting listed as the first thing to try.

You don't need to reset network settings, which erases all kinds of data such as wifi passwords.

Instead change the DNS server of your wifi connection to 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS server) and restart the iPhone. Then turn on iMessage and FaceTime again and remove the manual DNS entry.
  • Yeah done a reset numerous times if I can't get it working will take to vauxhall just strange

Have you tried deleting the pairing of the car & phone, then re-pairing them?

(I haven't had any issues on iPhones or iPads since updating them)
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?
  • Yup neither were paired as was new handset and unpaired old phone
