Why don't you put a card in the grocers shop. Somewhere like a big Tesco.
Just say you need a s/h net book for £50.
Tech types normally have surplus machines lying around. They do tend to accumulate around the house. Many people change their machines when windows change. I will always prefer XP even though they say support is being withdrawn.

Good idea, thanks :) Thought I'd be able to pick up a second hand one for way under £50 but can't believe they're still fairly pricey. Thought there'd be loads of 'em hiding in lofts/cupboards!

Ooh how do I do that then? Sorry, really blonde now when it comes to all this! And to think I was the only one who could set the video record thingy at home lol. Feeling old, technology's overtaken me!

    THANKS :)

use a vga cable from netbook to monitor, simple as that.... so if you don't have a monitor, borrow one from work IT bod maybe, and a vga lead ;)

Got a monitor, no idea what a VGA lead is - but will flutter my eyelashes and get helpful IT man to assist ;)

    Thanks :)

vga lead has connector with 3 rows of pins in it, connects to the female vga connector on your netbook. If you have a monitor, does it have a vga lead built-in already? some do...

Actually got an old screen behind my desk and that does have a lead attached. It has the row of 3 pins at both ends. Is that the one?

    Ta :)
