Something between his toes

Jack has got a pink lump between his toes. I noticed because he was licking it. It's about half an inch long and oval in shape with a raw looking centre, though it's dry to the touch.

He's not limping but keeps licking it.

If it doesn't clear up I'll take him to the vet but has anyone ever seen anything similar in a dog?

Please take him to the vets anyway, I wouldn't wait for it to clear up. I have seen something that sounds similar on a friends dog. If it is nothing then you will have wasted a few quid, if it is serious the sooner you get it seen the better x

If it's looking raw I'd say it's reached the vet stage. It could be something like a grass seed that's got stuck between the toes and worked into the skin, a blocked pore/ingrown hair, a little nick that's got infected - a wide range of things, but most will need vet treatment.
  • My Akita is prone to these. The same one comes up every so often on her front paw. Sometimes I can manage them myself, other times they've needed to be drained and a course of antibiotics from the vet. If this is the first time you've seen it I would definitely take him to the vet just to try and get the cause confirmed.

Just had another look and it looks like a pomegranate seed...similar size too. I'm baffled but will make a vet appointment.

Are you sure it's not a tick? Can you get a photo of it?

I would say the vet would be the best bet, if it's left and it gets too nasty it could have long term damage and affect him walking

No definitely not a tick. I've seen enough of those to know what they look like. It's weird. Just exactly like a pomegranate seed. Same size and colour and shiny pink with what looks like a pip in the centre.

I could get a photo but don't know how to upload it

What did your Akita's paw lumps turn out to be?

It could be a wart, if you search for images there are all different types of warts but some do look very pomegranate like, although some of the images are rather graphic.

Thanks fosterdog. I don't think it's a wart though as it's smooth and shiny, but I'll have a google and look at some images.

Got an appointment with the vet for Thursday so at least it will be properly looked at.
