Hi thinking of installing wood burner (contura) in next few months. Was wondering what is life span of these wood burners or wood burners in general? Also life time of flue?

A lifetime. If used correctly
You will need to maintain it, door seals wear and fire bricks crack. Glass may sometimes need replacing
Flues can corrode if you are burning incorrectly and not getting it swept
My neighbour has an inherited stove that is at least 30 years old and is still looking good and belts out the heat0 -
We have one that is over a 100 years old. It has had a few repairs done to it in that time though.0

Thanks for replays. Take it flue is same. Good care makes it last longer.0

Make sure that if you are having a Contura fitted you have access into the flue section by means of a soot trap or soot plate, you can't sweep flue internally with contura stoves because of the way their baffles are inside.
Speaking from experience there !You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Top baffle should come out okay if you remove one of the side baffles first mate.0

Not the Coturas I've been to !
Even went to the manufacturer to get their view on it, their baffles are removeable but there are two heat ducts in most of their stoves that are welded across the opening of the flue which only gives about 2" of access for sweeping, and with a 6 or 8" diameter flue you ain't gonna get a brush past that restriction.
On another forum several sweeps have also had the same problem, Contura's response was sweep from top down or fit an access. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -

What model of contura do you have? Looking to get 790k with power stone.0 -
I don't have one, I have a Charnwood Cove.
I am a chimney sweep, that's how I've come across them mainly the 500 series that are really poor to sweep. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Hi all,
It's only the older models such as the 500 series that can not be swept through the appliance - all the latest models such as 750, 810, 51L and i5 are all easy sweep through.
If you come a cross a 500 series the installers should have put in a seperate means of access for sweeping.
Regards
Mike
Ps. I don't work for Contura but came across this thread on a search (I own a woodburner showroom)0
