VW Coming to pick car up - insurance question
I have recently purchased a 2007 VW Golf from the dealership in Derby.
Some of the work which I pointed out needed to be fixed before purchase hasn't been done and after a complaint to the manager they are coming from Derby to Cheltenham to pick my vehicle up a week tomorrow (21 October). My question is: are they insured fully comp on their own insurance to drive my car to and from Derby for the work to be done?
They have told me they'll leave me with a courtesy car and that I will only be covered third party on this. But what if they have an accident or cause damage to my car while it's in their care? Who picks up the tab then? My own insurance is only for my partner and myself, so who insures their driver to pick the vehicle up?
Now beginning to wonder if it would be less of an insurance nightmare for me to just take the car up myself and pick a courtesy car up from Derby.
I should add that it has taken me to threaten them with legal action before they agreed to do the outstanding work on the car.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the swift response. Does their trader's insurance cover their driver fully comp or only third party?0

Unlikely to be 3rd party. They break it them its their responsibility to fix it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Their driver will be insured fully comp. Should anything happen to your car while in their care, then that will be covered on their insurance too.
I'd be wanting to have both of you insured on the loan car as if it was yours.0 -
Thanks for your replies. Just been a bit concerned that they might try and pull a fast one (in any manner of ways) as we've had a lot of trouble getting them to sort the outstanding work out.
I'll be adding the courtesy car to our existing car policy for a few days while ours is with VW so we'll both be insured on it. Or I should say, that I *hope* I will. After calling our insurance company to ask whether this was possible they guy told me that he didn't know.
Sorry if I sound like a dimwit. I haven't had to have work done under warranty before, and want to make sure all the legal boxes are ticked before we go ahead with anything.0 -

Actually, YOU use some common sense! This is what forums are for. If you can't answer politely then move on to the next question. Reported you for trolling.0 -

It's a fair point- why would a car dealer who's business involves driving many cars around not be insured to do so?
It is the nature of their business.
A bit harsh reporting LT for trolling- it's hardly the greatest put down ever is it asking someone to apply a little thought process tho their situation?0 -
If you are really concernd about their insurance status, why not ask them?
But it's unthinkable that their drivers wouldn't be covered fully comp, unless they sub-contract collections to a dodgy third party. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Ask if you can extend the courtesy car insurance from tp to comp.
Check the excess.
Do you know what rude means? No one been rude to you (yet!)0
