I agree Calley. I use a lot of peppers in cooking and the fresh ones always seem to be quite expensive. So i saw a bag of frozen ones which i figured out it would work be cheaper to use them instead.0 -
I am hoping for a cheaper month on the grocery front, as I am away on hols for a week (and will therefore be spending saved holiday cash and saving a weeks shoppping cash).
That's the plan anyway............"It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that, I'm sorry. But you can take my word for it, your mother had it comin'."

Small steps, right?
If you know you have a tendency to do this make it work for you. Week one buy all the ingredients you need to make sarnies for a whole month of lunches and stick them in the freezer. Whenever you cook something make double and stick half in the freezer also. By week three you may not have any money but your freezer will be goaning and you can live out of that. HTHLife's a beach! I thought I had had a really bad month in April. A couple of times my grocery bill came to over £50 (even with £8-10 off in coupons) Living out of two homes is proving a bit of a steep learning curve, trying to keep track of what is in which larder/fridge/freezer and where. I've lost count how many times I've started to cook something only to realise the vital ingredient I thought I had in stock I do have but 100 miles away:mad: Having said all that I have come in on budget (just) and will stick for the MAY challange.Life's a beach! I'd like to join the May Grocery Challange
There are 4 of us 3 adults and 1 teenager who eats like an adult so I'm basically feeding 4 adults. My total includes all items bought at the supermarket and any eating out for the month (which we rarely do). Starting today my aim is £240 for the month and I'm gonna try keeping this money in a separate purse. I also want to try and visit a farm shop early on in the month, I find the concept of eating locally sourced food a good one, am looking forward to my trip.Jue0 -
well, I got carried away this month and managed to spend only about £6-8 a week on groceries (its just for me!). I feel it might have been a the expense of healthy eating though as have been heavy on the potato/bread side and not much fresh veg. Just too busy to get down to the market and buy them. So my challenge this month is to up my expenditure to £10 a week and get the green veggies and fruit in!I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!
Money to raise for tuition fees: £3000

I'm going to give it a go this month. I aim to get below £200 for the month for 2 adults and 2.5 children (1 full-time and 1 for alternate weekends only - what complicated lives we lead!!) This sounds high compared to some of you guys but I have to start somewhere. We both take packed lunches to work so this is included too, as well as laundry stuff. This is really expensive, but I will have a go with what it is...soda crystals and white vinegar? Hmmmm...sounds like a recipe for an exploding washing machine to me.
I seem to spend a lot on crisps so shall cut them out - healthier too, and on biscuits. I don't want to cut them out, I enjoy them too much with a cuppa, but intend to have a go at making some.
Can anybody suggest anything to put in a lunchbox to take the place of a bag of crisps? I sometimes put in a few carrot sticks but get a bit bored of them. I like savoury things.
I like red wine too. Can anybody suggest cheap but palatable red wine, preferably a smooth one like merlot?
Thanks and I will let you know how I get on.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

My kids used to take crips in lunchboxes, today they took home made cheese straws but I've yet to find a satisfactory alternative that I can make on Sunday to last the week.
I buy the cheapest red wine that Asda and Tesco do, it's a couple of quid a bottle (look for Comida or Marque de Leon, something like that) and I'm quite happy drinking it. Some people have tried it and agreed but others haven't so try one bottle first! Asda do a claret for about £2.50 a bottle, I like that too.0 -
Did the first grocery shop of the month on Wednesday, went slightly over my £40 target and spent £42.34 BUT I got extra large sizes of pet food, which they don't usually have in stock, so will be able to shave £7 off of my next shop & £5 off the one after that for these items alone so on paper at least I am quids in for now:jPost Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
