OS Daily Thread Sunday 13th October 2013 This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x
Wet and windy here again this morning. Yesterday turned out to be a bit warmer and slightly more settled for a while, but then started raining again in the late afternoon and we now have rain and wind.
DH and myself up drinking a cuppa and enjoying the peace whilst the boys are still in their pits.
Dinner last night a cheeky takeaway - food was good, but some of the order was missing and I didn't know this until after I'd paid and the delivery people had left - so rang them and they did apologise but only wanted to give me a credit off the next meal - as the quality has become a bit hit and miss and this is not the first time this sort of thing has happended - there won't be a next time!
The meeting we attended was well run, we have another today but today's is nearly a 2 hour ride away so hence why I'm up at this ridiculous time on a Sunday morning! I've defrosted some meat and will put a casserole in the slow cooker like I did last week as that was really enjoyed by us all, and means that we don't stray into buying takeaway food for quickness because I haven't planned properly.
Called in on mum and dad yesterday before we went to meeting to collect the tile cutter for us to borrow to try to sort out the exposed piece of wall behind the fridge/freezer. That should be fun as DH has never tiled anything before! My bro and SIL were en route to see my mum and dad and stay for 1 night - so mum and dad said the boys could stay with them whilst we went to the meeting but we would need to collect them as soon as we got back as they were all going out for dinner - so was nice for boys they could see my brother and SIL for a while. Called in on the outlaws also, MIL not very happy with us (although when she questioned us about "did you go to Scotland for the funeral?) and I told her we did and took her sister she wasn't at all happy but when DH asked her if she had a problem with it she said she didn't - but from her attitude and the way she said it she very much did have a problem with it! I stepped in and told her straight - "look you were away on holiday, we really didn't think you were going to want to come back off you holiday, try to book accommodation (they are completely non computer literate), and then after 1 day at home then travel 6 hours to Scotland, we also didn't know early on that we would definitely be able to go as DH needed time off work". She was moody afterwards and DH was about to tell her where to go - as when we got to the funeral the family asked us if we had been able to see/contact her to tell her that the relation had died as she hadn't been in touch with them! If she couldn't be bothered to lift the phone up and speak to her brother (who she apparently hasn't had any kind of falling out with) then she was hardly likely to attend a funeral at the other end of the country to give him some support! Also she hasn't had anything to do with her 88 year old father who lives 30 miles away because "he doesn't come and visit me so why should I bother to go and see him?" Oh the joys of family, glad they're not biologically related to me - there's loads of us on my side and we're all spread out and we don't generally have nastiness of that degree. MIL is going to be a very lonely sad bitter old woman at some point. And breather, rant over!
Have a peaceful Sunday everyone x
Keep safe and well x

Good Morning NMLC and Hester x
Thank you for asking after me - i have struggled with side-effects after my Botox namely a stiff neck which was so bad I was reminded of having mumps as a small child. We went to see DD at uni yesterday and I was so out of it I slept the day away on her bed in her digs - she is used to my unpredictable health but it still annoys the hell out of me:( Anyway she got time with her darling daddy and she is a daddy's girl so all was not lost:)
However this is nothing compared to what some are going through and my thoughts are with Ruby and her family, Hilly (you are in the wars) and Bemuzzled - hope you are doing ok xxx
So today I need more PMA and with that got up at 4.30am to transport my eldest and second sons to work - it was so quiet. I very rarely drive now but it was so quiet and I like listening to the Farming programmes.
I am awaiting my parent's shopping and then over to see them and talk some more about Lasting Power of Attorney - very stressful and really dont want to do it as it is always a drama with my parents. There have been many times when I have wished that I had a sibling and now is one of them - although I am aware of the issues of sibling rivalry.
Hugs for a good day xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Up yet again early but at least I am managing to go to sleep ok, I just wish I could stay asleep. It doesn't help that it's so dark when I wake up. At least the evil kittens and my dog are pleased to see me every morning. I think we need a new mattress even though we've only had our one for a year. I just get terrible back ache which wears off after an hour or so. Oh well, it will have to wait until after Christmas anyway.
I'm off to church this morning with some of my girls. I really love it when they choose to accompany me but I would never force them to attend. The good thing is there are lots of children in our church and the majority of people that go there are extremely tolerant of all the noise, there are a couple of grumpy people of course but it takes all sorts to make a church family. Our pastor and his lovely wife have done a lot to repopulate the church's sunday school as they have 6 children :rotfl::rotfl:.
I had a sneaky peek at my weight this morning and it's looking very hopeful for Wednesday's weigh-in. I did have a cheeky takeaway on thursday and went well over my points allowance but am trying to claw back some points over the rest of the week. Today is easy as it's roast chicken with loads of vegetables. Even better, hubby cooks it while I am at church and then the girls do the washing up afterwards so I get a whole day off from cooking.:D.
Hope everyone has a restful day if possible and all the people who are sad or unwell can have a gentle hug from me.
Take care.
Cheers m'dears x0 -
Good morning everyone
We are half way through decluttering and sorting out the living room and dining room. Massive success yesterday when DH said how great it looked and he was so much happier doing it :j
Marie Curie shop had huge donation of books and bric-a-brac yesterday and were delighted. Will pick another charity shop to donate to today. Also managed to list a few bits and pieces on ebay so good day all around.
DH and GDD are still asleep so I am doing banking, budget for the week and having a mooch around the boards while having a cup of liquorice tea.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super dayLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Dumpling Well done on the weight loss, one of my friends has lost 9 stone over the last two years, she looks amazing.

My giant ripple blanket is 7' 2” x 7' 4”, has 63,432 stitches, took 92 hours and cost £45. I won't be making another big blanket for quite a whileWill take a pic when I find somewhere to spread it out fully AND manage to get the whole thing in the picture

I seem to have shaken off this cold, I'm not feeling quite right but I have lots more energy and the achiness (achyness?) has gone.
I sorted through the food cupboards earlier in the week, won't need to stock up for quite a while. I want to sort out the toiletries today, I always get (OK, buy for myself!) lots of Soap and Glory for Christmas and I keep the pump bottles for shower gels, shampoos, etc. They look so neat lined up on the side of the bathI use them for washing up liquid too. I've ended up with lots of half-empty ones – who starts a new one when the other isn't empty yet? Not me. So I'll refill those.
I've got piles of paper but haven't got round to shredding it yet, the chickens will be be complaining if they haven't got somewhere soft to lay, lol. I'll get the shredder out and put it to work.Bulletproof0 -

Just watching the Andrew Marr show while tidying. Am wondering how silly the government can get over the badger cull and Owen Paterson's stupid remark "The badgers moved the goal posts", which inspired poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy's new poem, 22 Reasons for the Bedroom Tax:
Because the Badgers are moving the goalposts.
The Ferrets are bending the rules.
The Weasels are taking the hindmost.
The Otters are downing tools.
The Hedgehogs are changing the game-plan
The Grass-snakes are spitting tacks.
The Squirrels are playing the blame-game.
The Skunks are twisting the facts.
The Pole-cats are upping the ante.
The Foxes are jumping the gun.
The Voles are crashing the party.
The Stoats are dismantling the Sun.
The Rabbits are taking the biscuit.
The Hares are losing the plot.
The Eagles are kicking the bucket.
The Rats are joining the dots.
The Herons are throwing a curveball.
The Shrews are fanning the flames.
The Field mice are sinking the 8-ball.
The Swans are passing the blame.
And the Pheasants are draining the oil from the tank-
