Ordered a new fridge from well known On-line retailer Currys, was surprised to see the transaction had been authorised from the Czech republic.
Interesting that another UK company is avoiding UK tax by using this loophole. Now if they had said on their check-out page that this would be processed through a non-uk location, I would have said, no, as I pay my taxes in the uk, and I expect my traders to contribute their bit to the uK. Does anyone know if any online traders who don't use this loophole. Of course its for the politicians to sort out this mess.

Yes, Currys Shared Services Centre is in the Czech Republic.
That dies not mean they are not paying taxes in the uk. It is not a loophole. It is a common business practice for companies which operate in different countries to have one place where they process orders.
And due to people demanding cheaper and cheaper goods, fueled by their personal greed, then the companies have to shift jobs off-shore to be able to be competitive.
If you don't like it, buy from a local retailer and keep your town going!1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -

Is it just me that finds it ironic that you complained to WTFH about not reading your full post, then proceed to do exactly the same to them :rotfl:0 -
I don't think it's for tax reasons - Dixons Retail is registered in the UK, despite being a multi-national company.
I think the reason is just that they've absorbed a lot of companies over the years, who probably have a lot of duplicated facilities (i.e. merchant card processing). They've been using a credit control centre in Brno for years on PC World Business accounts so it was probably only natural to use the same people for online orders...Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
But they do pay all the taxes they need to as a UK retailer, they just happen to use a different company to process their payments. It is not a tax dodge in any way. Currys is part of the Dixons group which is originally a UK company but has branched out and has stores in other countries but brings the profits into the UK but it does leave them needing a way to process multi national payments easily and maybe the Czech Republic have a better banking system than we do for dealing with such things.0

I do hope you only ever buy British and none of that johnny foreigner stuff.0

just look at how many UK service companies outsource their sales/services to other countries.0

was the fridge UK built too?0

Do you purchase anything online where you pay using Paypal.
If as then do you know they process the payments in Luxembourg, but they have a UK office and pay UK taxes, just like the retailer who used PP to take their payments0
