Unfair Sainsbury Rewards Policy

Firstly wasn't sure this was the right place but finally decided it was .
I use Asda,Tesco and Sainsbury .Both the latter two issue vouchers for future use and ,although this is about Sainsbury it also applies to Tesco .
Last week I had a delivery of groceries form Sainsbury for £105 and attached to the delivery note was a voucher for £6 on a future £60 delivery but the problem was that it was valid for only seven days and as a single person I wasn't likely to be ordering that amount within 7 days and probably not for much longer . A previous delivery had a similar voucher attached .
I sent an email to Sainsbury complaining about the short life span of these vouchers suggesting that whoever had thought of the idea had not considered who might get them ( not just a family) and got a phone call this morning and the girl completely appreciated my point of view and said that she would pass on my complaint to the appropriate Dept...she also said she would send me two vouchers for £6 each with no minimum spend and a very long expiry date ( several years in fact).
So my point is that if you get these vouchers don't just throw them away if you cant use them in the time allowed ..complain to Sainsburys Customer Service .

Thanks for that, it's good to know that they do follow up on complaints like this.

I shop in store at Sainsbury's and when you pay, the till churns out a load of vouchers for this and that, mainly extra Nectar points. But, like you said, many of the vouchers only last for a week.

I shop weekly for two of us but it makes me so cross that, not only do they make the assumption that everyone shops weekly, but that it'll be on the same day! So if I go one week on my preferred Friday but the following week can't make it until Saturday or Sunday then the vouchers have expired!

I'll certainly complain next time this happens.

They don't assume everyone shops weekly, if they did the vouchers would only be valid for 5 days.

The vouchers are designed to get you to go back to the shop sooner than you normally would.

Thanks OP, it would never occur to me to do that

I just have to say, it's better than at morries, where I've received a £1.75 wys £30! Thanks Mr M, but I think I can do better :rotfl:

Thanks geordiejoe. It would have to be a pretty excellent voucher to get me shopping more than once a week! And then I'd just use the voucher and walk straight back out. Sainsbury's obviously haven't reckoned with the willpower of mse!;):rotfl:

At least that's ten times the discount they offer those who have even smaller shops - the £3 off £20 vouchers appear to have been stopped and replaced with ridiculous double points offers if you up your spend. A 1% "discount" in points only.

Best current offer for low spend shoppers is probably the Co-op with £1 off £5 shops. Mind you, finding even just £5 of goods at a competitive price in the Co-op is a challenge!

Sainsburys customer service is great, I noticed a real improvement about 5 years ago and much prefer to shop there if I can't avoid the big 4.

I have a couple of friends that work for Sainsburys and they are sick of every time a customer does a transaction without a Nectar card being scanned, a flipping online shopping coupon is printed.

It goes against Sainsburys' 'green supermarket' policy as walk past the self scan bin and its filled with these coupons.

It would be better if Sainsburys either printed a code on the receipt or put the code on the internet.

Some of the coupons are unfair as well. I had the spend £10 on clothing and get 8p of per litre of fuel for the next time I fill up. My mother received the same coupon, but had to spend £20 and only got 8p off per litre!

That's interesting - is it the case that not using a Nectar card increases the chance of receiving a voucher, then?

I'd always assumed it was the other way round. :)
  • I always get a '£x off you first online shop' voucher when scanning the nectar card, probably there to encourage shoppers to go online so prints out to all without a card and those with who haven't done an online shop

It would make sense, if you use a nectar card they know who you are, how much you spend and how often you shop. So there may be no need to try and encourage you to shop more often or spend more.

But if you don't use a nectar card and pay cash they don't know who you are or how often you shop and how much you spend. So it may be worth giving you a voucher JIC it's your first shop there, or you mainly shop in another store and only use them occasionally etc.
