lost to the road. i hoped this day would never come but knew it would one day that's the risk of owning an outdoor kitty.
what really got me was the Vets has had her for the last 3 days, and only today they have contacted us after scanning her for a chip this afternoon  and have had her in frozen storage for this time. We went to see her (not pretty) but i needed to do it.
i wasn't concerned she hadn't been home for a few days as this is Tinks normal behavior sometimes she stays in sometimes we don't see her for four or five days then she's back for fusses and food and hangs round by the house for a few days then rinse and repeat.
she was found by a neighbor not too far from home (unrecognizable by features so she did not think it was ours) there was a van man stopped by tinks but when neighbor asked what had happened he said i stopped to have look it wasn't there when i drove up this road 10 mins ago got in van and shot off. its not her usual haunt where she was found so i can only guess that she was on a visit to or coming from meritaten's judging where she was found.
gutted......

I know Tinks was a 'wanderer', but, she was used to that road! I will miss her occasional 'visits' and her expecting OH to be her 'taxi' service home! lol - once ensconced on sofa she wouldn't budge unless she was sure she had her lift home..........opening the door and inviting her to leave was met with a look of contempt!
I think its awful of that vets to not 'magic wand' her - fgs she was registered with them!
I also feel bad that she was prob on her twice yearly visit down my house.
I am so sorry Atrix - she was a really nice cat, and I will miss her.0 -
so sorry for your lossI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Atrix - so sorry xxx
It is so awful when this happens
One of mine (Macius) wanders way too far away from home and worries me about similar possible outcome to the point that I am seriously thinking of re homing him to someone far ways from busy roads - to prolong his life.. sighhh If I could find such a person0 -
Really sorry. Had one of my cats killed on the road only a couple of weeks ago so know how awful it is. I've been wracked with guilt, but am trying to hold on to what the vet said to me 'you were letting her be a cat'.
RIP Tinks.0 -
Really sorry to hear your sad news.
It's an awful way to lose a pet (although I do know that no way is 'good' IYSWIM) but made worse by the vet's delay in identifying her.
It sounds like she had a happy life though.0 -
to me she was a very special cat.
If I opened the bonnet to the car, she was there under it with me looking for the problem.
If I took a walk she was there tagging along behind me.
Open the car door, she would jump in and curl up on the back seat got to sleep.
She didn't mind taking car trips to pick the kids up from school.
she would wind up the wife with bringing a live mouse home drop it in the kitchen and stand back and watch the wife jump on table in hysteria and have a look of absolute amusement on her face.
she terrorized the neighbors dog he would be walking dog out the front the cat would be on the bin and the dog would bark and jump against the bin to knock her off, tinks would jump down and chase the dog round the corner with the dog wimping in fright.
I have so many memories that I will cherish for a lifetime.0 -

Oh no, I'm so sorry - far too many loses to the road recently (there's also been a few on another forum I go onto the past couple of weeks)
It's such a worry knowing what it best to do - Archie's out most of the time and I know he'd hate to be cooped up but I do worry when he's out ....
