I haven't had a roast dinner since the last time I was back at my parents for the holiday, so I think that was early april. And before that I hadn't had one since the start of january.
I don't see any point in making all the effort when I'm just cooking for me, it seems silly really when I can just have a quick pasta meal or something.

I spend a lot of time travelling on a sunday but if it werent for that we would have a roast dinner. When this travelling lark is over (in a long distance relationship) in a years time we will be having a roast every sunday. We have a roast dinner on probably about once a month but not always on a Sunday.
Normally have roast chicken as there is only two of us and get about 3 meals out of a chicken, otherwise lamb and sometimes beef. I never cook pork I don't like it0 -
I did BBQ Leg of Lamb yesterday, and it was much nicer than any roast.
Recipe as follows:
1 Leg of Lamb
6 cloves garlic, chopped into 2-3 slivers
Some olives, chopped in half
Several sprigs of rosemary
Extra virgin olive oil
Sea salt
Herb provencal mixture (see below)
Wood chips for smoke (about 1 pint of wood chips), soaked in water for at least 1 hour, then drained
Make incisions in lamb, about 1/2 inch deep, and 1 inch apart, all over lamb, and stick either rosemary, garlic or olive into each one. Oil lamb all over, and rub with salt. Cover liberally with herbs (there will be leftovers).
Then, using a kettle-style barbecue, place a metal tray underneath the lamb, so that it has no coal underneath it (not good to let it burn), and pile hot coals either side of the tray, and add wood chips. Place lamb in centre of grill, cover, and cook for about 1.5 hours, until the lamb is cooked; you might need to add more coal, and more wood chips for smoky flavour after 1 hour of cooking. Best flavour *ever*.
Serve with oiled and bbq'd aubergines and courgettes, and couscous cooked in chicken stock.
Herbs provencal:
3 tablespoons dried basil
3 tablespoons dried oregano
3 tablespoons marjoram
1 tablespoon dried rosemary
1 teaspoon crushed dried bay leaves
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon dried sage
2 teaspoons dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds (I didn't have so used black mustard seeds instead)0 -

Nice to see someone else who uses the barbeque to do their Sunday roast occassionally. We have a gas barbie with separate burners for each side so put the joint or chicken on one side and light the burner on the other side so the meat isn't over the heat. Close the lid and it takes about the same time as in the oven.:j0 -
I haven't done a roast since I was about 6 weeks pregnant (went off veg, then meat, then veg again) but I'm now starting to miss them (I'm 23 weeks so it's been a few months). I'm going to endeavour to do one on the next 'bad weather' weekend
hi, we started having roast chicken every sunday since my little one went onto solids, he loves it, just makes sure you omit the gravy if theres a lot of salt- use the water that the veg has been boiled in- no honey on carrots or any extra sald, scoop out the fluffy potato out of the roasties and blend down- its a good one to use up all the leftovers and stick all the min baby meals in the freezer, one you can all eat which is easy. ps hope your queasiness passes, i had to live on porridge for 3 months its all I could stomach!!! enjoy......0 -
No, we don't have one every week. We used to, but none of us eat that much anymore. When we do have roasts, they tend to be either chicken or lamb.
Potatoes vary depending on if new potatoes are in season. Veggies are normally carrots and brocolli. Runner beans are a favourite when they're in season

If me and the BF have a roast-of-sorts we have it on a Saturday evening-more time to cook! He doesn't eat beef or lamb, and i don't eat meat at all, so we have the roast spuds, yorkshire puddings, carrots, brocolli etc etc with a Cauldron Foods Tomato and Courgette bake and some posh sausages for him. I do most of the cooking, while he lovingly crafts the gravy! :rotfl:0

Never have roast dinner on Sundays, even though OH and I are both second generation, I still think of it as something English people do, and not us. Yes, I was born here, and so were both my parents, but my Ma never taught me the mysteries of the Yorkshire Pud and Bisto (which is disgusting - sorry). Mind you I've had some great roast dinners in my time, all cooked by other people. This is a great question because I'm completely English in every way, but until I started answering it, I didn't realise that as far as food is concerned, I'm still a foreigner.All Art is the transfiguration of the commonplace

Love going to my mums as she does a fabulous roast dinner, meat and 300 veg LOL (we all like lamb best)
My MIL's - not so much LOL, cremated chicken, boiled beyond recognition veg and bisto water ?!?!
We tend not to have a sunday roast very often, mostly because we're out between 10.00am and 2pm for church every week (any tips on acheiveing a top roast whilst being out all morning would be appreciated - no timer on oven BTW)
When we do a roast at home it's full-on, yorkies, roast potatoes and parnips, cauliflower cheese (leftovers for lunch), carrot & swede mash, cabbage, peas, sometimes broccolli mmmmmmm - we love pork when its top quality otherwise its not worth eating, dh likes beef and DS (2 yrs) likes veggies or anything else he can find dunked in gravy LOL0
