Why do some people pointlessly overtake
Comments

This is because the 7 cars are all too close to each other. If they left a gap then he could overtake 2, slot in, then 2 then 2 more until he is past, instead he is forced to try for all 7 at once.
No he's not. He chooses to try for all 7, no-one is forcing him to do anything.
Regardless of the driving faults of the cars ahead, trying for a 7 car overtake on a single carriageway is likely to be unsafe - there aren't many stretches of SC I can think of where such an overtake isn't going to run out of road, and if there is that much clear road then he should be expecting at least one of those 7 to also decide to overtake.
At very least he's likely to have to force back into one of those non-existant gaps, which he must have been aware were non-existant in order to feel "forced" to try for all 7.
There's way too much of people blaming others' driving for the risks they choose to take out there. "He did something discourteous / thoughtless so I had to do something dangerous to compensate" is about the worst excuse imaginable for poor driving!0 -

(The blind corner bit I can't excuse )
One of those cases where everyone knows that they are the greatest driver ever to grace the roads, and wonders why they see so many near misses on their travels
But obviously to overtake when the space to 'slot in' is not available, is not a safe and reasonable time to overtake. So really, his actions are inexcusable full stop. ;p0 -
As I said, we all know that we are the greatest drivers in the world, and that everyone else is discourteous/in the wrong so we can tut-tut as we drive past the accident certain that there was nothing that we could have done to prevent it
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

are you saying that all the lorries are breaking the speed limit?
nothing worse than sitting behind a lorry for miles at 40 when you could be doing 60, some of us have work to do0 -

Re-re my post lorries average speed 50 mph.
My point is there are hardly any safe overtaking spots and 80% of the time the car that overtakes gets stuck behind another further down and by the time we come to roundabout I've almost caught up0 -

But their average speed shouldn't be 50 they are limited to 40 which would bring their average down to less than 400 -
Lorries are limited to 560
