Why do some people pointlessly overtake

Live in a small village near barrowby. Work outskirts of derby so regularly use a52 to commute.
For those who know the route it's 15 miles of single lane frequented by lorries as it links the a1 and such.
The amount of people who can see how many lorries etc who overtake pointlessly nearly causing head on collisions to be what 2 mins further up the road.
Why do it utter madness may as well sit back and relax

Easy to say, and of course you're right. But it can be so frustrating sitting at the end of a procession of lorries that I can see why people do it.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -
I agree but being stuck behind one lorry is same as being stuck behind another there's verse rarely a gap to overtake multiple and if you did odds are you would be stuck behind another 5 mins up the road.
Besides which Id rather be behind a procession of lorries than in the middle of them0 -
when you get to the end of the single lane road and it's getting busier. The last place you'll want to be is behind a whole load of lorries; the idea is to get as close to the first one as you can - or overtake it - so you're not stuck behind them all day.0

Front of a que is always better than the back. Not pointless in the slightest.0

Because after overtaking the vehiche in front you have a clear open road. Until the next slow vehicle at least.
Is the speed limit 60mph? And the lorries are doing 40mph?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

"Why do some people pointlessly overtake"
see this everyday on way to work, people flying about overtaking other cars with no open road in sight. Yesterday watched two cars in front of me over take a fiat 500 in a town at 7:15am (30mph limit) just to be behind another car in a long but moving at correct speed que.0 -
20 - 40 miles behind a lorry doing 40mph when you could be doing 60?
If its safe then no problem. But i have seen some stupid people, Many times i have prayed its a truck coming the other way not a family in a small hatchback.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I hear this whinge all the time. The way i see it is this...
If you're cutting someone up & nearly causing an accident - then that's a problem & is very wrong.
However, if you just overtake someone (who may well be doing the speed limit as it is, or even more than) & you do it safely causing no risk to others, then what's the problem?
I've seen it & i've had it - the person who've been overtaken flapping their arms about like they're a bird, gesturing what's the point.
Well, point is, i may get to the traffic lights & through them on green but they hit red by the time you reach them.
Point is i've overtaken you. I'm alive, you're alive, we're all alive, so get on with life & concentrate going at the speed YOU'RE happy with going.0
