Have to agree Asus Mobo, I used McAfee Enterprise for years without it costing me a penny but I still found the freeware AVG and Avast to be far superior in both protection and smaller resource use.

Okey dokey first things first download AVG to your pc and save it somewhere easy to find, i.e My Documents, now go and get a free Firewall and again save to My Documents, and get the Norton Removal Tool and yet again save to My Documents, now the thing to do is this, disconnect from the net run the Norton removal tool, restart PC but dont connect to the net just yet, install firewall then restart PC and now connect to the net then install AVG.

When I say disconnect from the net just remove the ethernet cable or power cable to the modem.

firstly i want to thank you for wanting to help. secondly, about to show just how techno ignorant i am . when you say download an avg ... do you mean find one on net or is it part of the links you have given me. when i go on the links you kindly provided and i get to the box save, run, delete do i run and then save to documents or just save to documents initially because i need to use your norton removal thing first before i can run the bits i have saved. then thirdly not to sure i understand about the disconnect bit. i have a lap top as being disabled i dont always get downstairs to our main one. do i need to get hubbie to disconnect something doenstairs where we have a router not a modem or just close it all down on my laptop like i was going to bed. sorry but i did say was useless at this which is why i allways just pay for norton but each time there littlw window flashes up saying you will need to download your renewal of norton in five days or elsa, then four days or else i am loathe to pay out again and determined with lots of help to get all the free stuff available for a change. hope you can help educate me?

To save to the PC means click on Save and save in the My Documents folder and yes AVG is on the links I posted, and yes save initially then run later when Norton is gone.

To disconnect from the net is to turn off the router, that will do, or disable your wireless connection there is usually a button on the top of a laptop with a wireless symbol.

Post back if you need anymore help :)
