help please - oven pie trays

Options
AAARRRGGHHH !!!!!

Ok...

Here's the thing...

You all know those oven trays with twelve indents in them for buns or yorkshire puds, I'm sure...

.. but once upon a long time (while looking up something for someone else) I saw some trays that had just six indents in them for individual (steak, or chicken & mushroom pies) that you see in most chip shops or service stations...

And I thought what a brilliant idea!

But I was skint at the time so didn't buy one.

Does anybody know please where I can get one on-line?

I ask because I carefully saved up those trays (from my chippy, which sells reasonable pies but godawful chips) and made myself six steak pies. Carefully marinaded and then cooked in the slow cooker overnight in beer, HM stock, and an assortment of herbs. Then I lightly sauted onions and mushrooms in garlic and tarragon flavoured butter, made my magic (secret*) pastry and made six pies.

Unfortunately my oven is seriously crape (I bet the censor thingy gets that word) and doesn't fit standard oven trays unless you put them in on a slant.

Everything went well and the aromas drifting from the oven were positively mouthwatering...

.. and then...

.. when I took them out...

.. THREE of the blasted foil thingies slid straight off the tray and demolished themselves on the kitchen floor!!! :(

So my plea for help is...

Does anybody know where I can buy one of these trays from please?

Yours,

Sobbing into the pies on the kitchen floor....

squeaky.

P.S. I HATE MY OVEN.

I used to have a four hole large Yorkshire pudding tin...or at least that's what I thought it was....having read the above, maybe it was a pie tin.

Anyway, I inherited it, so no ideas from whence it came.

But, I have seen bakeware in Dunelm Mill, don't know if you have tried there.

(so sorry to hear about the demise of your pies)

I also have a 4 hole Yorkie tin (and that is what it was advertised as ) and it makes great pies. It came in a batch of cheap mixed bakeware from Argos ie one of their "starter sets" - it was quite cheap so might be worth ti even if you only use that bit - given the price of pies and the awfulf illings of bought ones - yours sound lovely Squeaky

  • I can feel the pain written in every word, the pies sounded lovely

Shirley Goode suggests (in her books) using the 4 hole yorkshire pudding tins for pies, she mixes sweet and savoury on the same tray, you'd need a good seal on the pastry though.

So if you want one just online there is this on ebay

Thanks all - but I do have a four way round thingy...

.. I just really REALLY REALLY want one of those proper pie trays :)

In the meantime... maybe I'll just superglue the foils onto the tray...

    :)

Sorry, cant help with the pie tray, but will have a look in the cooks stand at my market next time I go.

But in the meantime, any chance I could scrounge one of those pies? I've just developed instant hunger reading your description, and my mouth is doing a fairly good impersonation of Niagra Falls! Yum!
