Amazon gift voucher. Unoriginal but leaves her able to choose her own gift.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Things like silver frames will be the first thing people will get her who are way closer than you are IMO.
I think voucher/food is much better idea.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
I really wouldn't buy 'stuff' but stick with the consumable idea. So I'd go for either champagne or wine (I white/1 red/1 rose?) depending on how much you want to spend.
Then if you want to spend more give money or vouchers. Personally I love the manicure/massage (sort of relaxing after all her hard work) idea but as you don't know her tastes it might not be her thing.0 -
A small glass vase? It's pretty and won't clash with most decors!0

Personally, I would hate to receive that certificate holder thing, a photo frame or a vase.
I'm with the others, alcohol or a gift card. Practical and useful and would be appreciated by someone with no money. I hate receiving those auntie / nan type object gifts as they're first in line for on-gifting or having accidents.0 -
You can never go wrong with a Starbucks gift card.:A

I definitely wouldn't take a permanent gift. Thins like the certificate tube etc. are best bought by close family / friends.
I would take a gift - no matter what has been said - and I would go "consumable" and I think a bottle of champagne perfect (if predictable!)
Nearly everyone likes champagne, if they don't, they pass it on. If hard up, it's always useful to have a bottle of champagne by you - you can give as a gift on almost any occasion, and if ever caught out at home, you can open it with a flourish!
The parents are obviously very proud, I suspect the "do" is more about them than the new graduate! When giving a gift to someone you don't know well, I think predictable is always best.0 -
I usually buy a personalised bottle of wine from; http://www.winedancer.com/ then they have the bottle to keep as a reminder.0
