Windows 8.1 Preview. It's good until mid January.0 -
If you created Windows 8 Pro media at the time of purchase, why not attempt to install and activate it before removing it from the DELL?
Don't use the DELL in the meantime...at least not online.0 -
I'll probably do that - got the bootable loaded and ready!NiftyDigits wrote: »If you created Windows 8 Pro media at the time of purchase, why not attempt to install and activate it before removing it from the DELL?

Just for fun I swapped the hard drive, i.e. took it from the Dell and wanted to see what happened if I'd boot up from it on the Toshiba. Lo and behold, it did. It took ages for it to adjust but is running fine now. Windows doesn't have an 'Activated' status though. A proper clean install will be done though!
Now I'm just trying to remember if I had to type the original license key (from the Dell) when I bought it or not...
Can anyone who bought the £25 upgrade offer remember if you had to present a key at the time of purchase?0 -

The key was necessary only to obtain the Promo Code. There was a loophole for a while where you didn't need it, but you were supposed to type in a key from a qualifying machine.
Your Toshiba's key would not have qualified. The DELL key isn't important now anyway, as you have already purchased and activated the OS.0 -
The £25 upgrade pricing was for XP/Vista/7, and you could just buy it from the MS website. This would have included a Toshiba running VistaNiftyDigits wrote: »The key was necessary only to obtain the Promo Code. The £15 offer was for Windows 7 PCs bought at a certain time, you needed to provide details of the PC to get a promo code and I think that was where there was a loophole at first.0 -
I just thought it would be useful to draw this thread to a conclusion.
I moved the Windows 8 Pro SSD to the Toshiba and it complained about activation. I went through the instructions to activate, phoned up Microsoft and all is fine.
Now I've got authentic Windows 8 Pro and I'm happy as Larry.
OS seems fine even though running on a different hardware from installation, I'm upgrading it to 8.1 as I write this.
That's a testament to Windows hardware resilience :beer:0 -

You did not have to put any legitimate details in the form .
Just date of purchase maker etc .No proof of purchase and at a later date MS sent an email with the £15 offer .0
