TV license refund

Advice needed please!

My TV license ended on 30th September, but I was moving out of my flat on 5th October, so I purchased a monthly direct debit to cover the few days that I would be in the flat. Since then, I have cancelled my direct debit but TV Licensing won't give me a partial refund. Their email stated: "The TV Licence fee is a charge for a legal permission and is payable regardless of the amount of time it might be needed. For that reason, there is no legal requirement for refunds to be made."

I understand it's a legal requirement to pay it which is why I did the legal thing and actually purchased a TV license for 5 days. They're now telling me that I should have purchased a quarterly payment as they can refund these.

Please can I have some advice on this? I know it sounds petty, but I just think it's morally unfair.

Thanks,

Natalie
