Flight delay due to stop off countries strike

Me and my Fianc! were flying to the states 2 years ago. And were flying to France to then fly direct to San Francisco. The French airport we were told was on strike. They were flying people to Heathrow to then fly to the states. We didn't manage to get on that flight before it was booked up so had a 5 hour-ish delay to fly to new York for a 4 hour stop to then fly to San Francisco which was also delayed if I remember correctly. Basically all in we arrived around 12 hours late at our destination. I remember getting there around 11pm and were should have arrived at about 11am. Minor niggle also but we were then charged for anything we wanted from new York to San Fran as it was an internal flight. When crossing between countries the TV and drinks etc are free. Or were on our original flight. Not that I'm THAT upset about a 10ers worth of drinks and not having on-demand :D

Ive read strikes are a no go but don't know the details. Had a quick google but it was specifying strikes in home country and didn't know if us getting the later of the 2 alternate routes would matter.

Anyone in the know care to shed light?

If I read it correct you were flying UK-France-US and there was a strike in France so you were rerouted

The strike in France was outwith the airlines control so no compensation. Just because the strike was not in the UK and at your intermediate destination does not change this
