I have done this before - never had an issue

I've done it too but never with an online sale. Why not contact them and explain. When I did this in a shop, they didn't bat an eyelid. All you're doing is taking advantage of a sale, nothing underhand or to be ashamed of.

OP did you buy it online? if so you have 7 days to change your mind for no reason and you can return it no problem under the distance selling regulation

Was just about to say this - spot on!

Just to add that if you send it back under the Distance Selling Regulations it's not a return as such, it's a cancellation of the sale. If you return it under those regulations they must refund you the price you paid.

Good job you bought it online! :)

TBH I didnt think that I would be able to - since really I just jumped the gun, so to speak, and I thought that if it was my fault they proably wouldn't help :o

Assuming you're not asking for moral 'what-should-I do' replies, you need to check out your rights for online purchases (already discussed in your thread and there are some good stickies on the Consumer Rights board) including any postage costs that you might incur (I don't shop on-line so I don't know what your rights are on this).

If you can live with any delay between paying for the 2nd dress (£240 total outlay when £200 was out of your budget) and getting a refund on the first dress, I'd go for it.

BUT - I personally wouldn't order the 2nd dress until the first one has been delivered and you know that it fits you and suits you.
  • Ring CS say you've just noticed its gone down in price again, they may offer to refund the difference.
I've been cheeky enough to do it in the past with John Lewis (not HoF tho) and just asked do i need to reorder at lower price and return original purchase at the higher price and they said 'no need, i will refund the extra to your card'

Thanks for the replies, I have ordered the second one in case it went out of stock. The first dress has been dispatched and should be here either tomorrow or Monday. As for the outlay, I use a CC for buying online and I have enough time to get the refund before the next statement so it should be covered.
