Hi, this may not be the right place for this, but I have a black tie ball coming up in a few weeks. I found the perfect dress on the house of fraser websitr on Tuesday. But it was £200 so out of my budget. I looked at the website again yesterday and the dress was in the sale at £140, but only had 9 left in my size, so I bought it last night.
Fast forward to today, I was showing my friend The dress and it has now bern reduced again, to £100. So naturally I was a bit miffed that I had missed out on a bigger bargain.
So I was thinking to buy the dress again, there are still 5 left, and return the first dress to get the refund. But, then I wondered if I would get the full £140 or just the new sale price?
What do you think?
Eta: apologies for the spelling, im on my phone!

With a receipt, you should get the full price you paid - although not all will offer cash/card refunds - may find it's credit vouchers. Would expect HoF to offer refunds though...
(AFAIK!)

You may as well try. Even if you just get the £100 back it would cover what you paid for the second dress so you wouldn't be any worse off. Just make sure it doesn't drop in price again before you take one back!0

Wouldn't risk it if it were me. You already have a £60 saving. It's up to you, but I would just suck it up. JMO.
What if you buy the second one and you don't get a refund? You will be £140 down. As it is, it's only £40. You can't be that hard-up if you can splash out £140 on a dress anyway.0 -
I have done this before - never had an issueWeight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0

Part of me does feel that I should just be happy with the saving, but then the other part of me thinks that £40 is £40, whether I'm hard up or not.
I checked the HoF refunds and if I return it within 14 days then I will get a refund on my card.0 -
Done it many, many times before - I'd order the other dress, fingers crossed that it arrives in time.
When it comes, I'd take the other back to the shop / return by post. If it arrives after the needed date you're covered as you have a backup dress.
£40 is dinner for two via Groupon or better yet, a massage for you before / after the big event."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -
OP did you buy it online? if so you have 7 days to change your mind for no reason and you can return it no problem under the distance selling regulation0

Ive not done it with HOF...but I have with m&s
The only thing I found was because I paid on cc they initially took the higher amount and were slower in processing the refund before the second payment was also taken
it didnt help that a statement was also generated at about that time too...so in effect I had to pay for both purchases before the refund kicked in...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
Thanks for the replies so far, I bought it online, we don't have a HoF here, the dress has already been dispatched so I'll have plenty of time to return it. The ball isn't for another 5 weeks so it's got plenty of time to get here!0

I do this all the time with multiple shops (one particular pair boots went back to Debenhams three times before they stopped reducing them!).
Provided you have the reciept and you're within the returns time frame you will recieved a full refund.0
