OP you need to take a chill pill - I have been working to rebuild my credit history since being on a DMP, but I know that everything that is on my Experian, Equifax and CallCredit (Noddle) file has been put there by the lenders, the council for the electoral roll etc - the CRA's don't make it up - the information they supply to prospective lenders forms part of the lender's decision making process - they don't make their minds up just on the CRA information unless there is something particularly alarming like a Default. That Experian haven't helped you is perhaps a symptom of the rant that you have put on this board - typical approach when you don't get the answer you want - I have been in contact with all of the companies over the years and have had no problems at all. As for getting your MP involved, I would hope that an MP would have better things to do than help out with your share dealing service or whatever it was.

    Rant?
Get real and pull your head out of your backside into the real world my friend.
I HAD to get my MP involved as experian refused to accept some important facts relating to my file. It was only AFTER her involvement that experian backed down and changed things.
    That was a year ago.
I now find when I tried to sign up to a share dealing service, my acount was refused due to the report from....yep, experian.
Now, in the past year, since experian were forced......thanks to my MP, to change things...I havent done a thing. Still retired, still earning the same income, still driving ,eating and sleeping in the same house/district etc as before. So Its really kind of weird that its experian again, that are doing a great job trying to screw up my file. So I have sent of a cheque for 4 pounds and await, probably a few weeks, before getting our reports.

No experian probably dont make much from the 2 pound statutory report, but they do off the full cost one!
  • We make no money from £2 reports - quite the opposite in fact. By law lenders have to give you our contact details if credit has been refused and they've consulted the credit report we hold for you. But that does not mean it was the reason they said no - unless they specify this in their refusal letter. Only the lender knows the reason for its decision, but they don't always volunteer this so it can be useful to go back and press them for guidance. We are the largest of the three CRAs so when you apply for credit there's a good chance they'll come to us to check out your past borrow record. Many lenders continue to set high passmarks for their credit scoring so in many cases the result will simply mean that the overall picture all of your data (inlcuding your credit report) paints of you does not quite reach the required standard they are looking for. There's often no specific reason - but, as I say, only they can explain their decision.

    James[/QUOTE]

Thakyou for that James, and of course you have to tow the party line on your explanation.
AS per my response to the idiot below who cant read. experian were "persuaded" by my MP to change things in my report. Because they refused to do so when I asked them too and provided proof of what they asked for.
I am whiter than white..(its a phrase so some of you dont need to get all excited).
    No loans/mortgages/outstanding payments/no new credit cards/banks/ex wives/errant children/disgrunteled ex employees/stable monthly military pension/stable rental incomes/healthy savings accounts..anything I've missed please do add.
So why was my report flagged when I applied to open a share dealing account. I cant wait to see what experian have done...again.
  • Grow up. For someone who's supposed to be a retired adult you sound like a petulant child.

"Oh boo hoo, woe is me, Experian are out to get me". Do you really think they don't have better things to do with their time?

Lenders make the choice, not Experian; it is as simple as that*. Perhaps the lenders don't want to lend to a retired person? That is possible.

Perhaps they don't consider you have demonstrated a stable enough history of credit use since you say you don't have any.

There are myriad reasons why you may have been declined by whichever lender/service you have applied to. Experian aren't one of them, your history is.

    What lender?

Enough history? How old do you have to be 200, 300 years old. I'm 60 !!!!!!.

Nope, they said it was because of the experian report.

Another credit expert, who cant read.!:T
  • You really really think that a lender etc looks at a report by say, experian thats not that hot and say, you know what, you look nice, we'll lend you the money!

No, of course not - how do you possibly reach that conclusion from my post.

A lender looks at the information provided by Experian and applies their decision-making criteria to it.

But all they get from Experian is information - not decisions.

Why is the word "lender" bandied around so much.
If experian et al, says you suck, the "lender" doesnt do any more than write you off. If thats simple and quick. Now if anyone thinks otherwise........hey life in cuckoo land must be nice.

    If you mean

if the experian provided credit report shows past lenders/suppliers/insolvency service/registry trust have recorded negative data with experian in relation to your past account conduct or financial history then the new potential lender/supplier will take that in to account when making their decision whether to lend to you/provide credit to you

then I would agree with that.

Experian doesn't 'say you suck,' it shows the company making the enquiry your account history and other such information. Said company then makes their own decision.

Your credit history speaks for itself. If I say 'bloodytickedoff held this account, that account and the other account and all payments were up to date' to a lender, then the lender refuses you credit, is that somehow my fault? No. It's no different with Experian...they just provide facts. The only way they would be at fault is if they were showing incorrect data on your credit report, but it's your responsibility to keep an eye on your reports and report any inaccuracies.

Now quit ya whinin' and do something about it.
